The Galveston Traveling Plaque, a new award to recognize outstanding
chapter support of the Patriots Fund, will spend the year with the Hill
Country Chapter. That chapter topped all others in percentage of members
contributing to the fund in 1987, its second consecutive year to do so.
Compatriot Dr. Gene Atkinson, president of the Hill Country, accepted the
plaque on behalf of his chapter during the Annual Meeting at Lake Jackson.
Patriots Fund Gifts Down: Investment InterestUp
Contributions to the Patriots Fund last year fell $1,200 short of the
previous year's total, but interest from investments rose during 1987 by the
same amount. Gifts totaled $4,830 during 1987 and investment income was
$6,670. The corpus of the fund now stands at $76,000.
Delegates to the 93rd Annual Meeting approved $6,200 in allocations
from the 1987 interest income. These allocations included funds for the
Douglass G. High Historical Oration Contest, the Eagle Scout Program, the
