Lloyd W. Perkins, Judge:To Editor
<Bravo for "Our Finest Hours are
Being Distorted", p. 9 and "The A-
Bomb Issue".
<>I enlisted in the Army Air Corps
July, 1944. I served in the Army Spe-
cialized Training Reserve Corps pro-
gram at Niagra University, eventually
serving on "Operation Crossroads",
Bikini Atoll, Marshall Islands, Atom
Bomb tests. My Commanding Gen-
eral of J-4 Logistics, General Blalock
planned the invasion of Okinawa. I
watch every video-tape or "movie"
you can obtain of the campaign! The
toll on American lives was horrifying!
<>The incredible "fanaticism of the
Japanese soldier at Okinawa was a"
preview" of the invasion of Japan.
<Even after dropping Bomb #1 the
Emperor still refused to surrender.
<>Why do the Smithsonian Ex-
hibitors ignore the terrifying record
of the Japanese Military (Pearl Har-
bor, Bataan, and Chinese atrocities)?
<>SAR - Stand by your guns
"Remember Pearl Harbor".

EDITOR PRESENTS ROTC
MEDAL
In August 1993, a Naval Junior
ROTC Unit was established at
Lewisville High school. 'I'he two re-
tirees in command of this unit are
Commander, Joe Culwell and Gun-
nery Sergeant Ray Clevenger. This is
the first Naval Junior ROTC that
Lewisville has had and the second Ju-
nior ROTC Unit in the schnol district.
In the past two years this unit has
participated in numerous competition
drill meets throughout the state,
performed hundreds of hours of com-munity service. and is very active in
school activities, such as, posting the
colors at pep rallies and football
games. Also the unit worked with the
district personnel to coordinate the
Regional Academic Decathlon. For
the past two years this JROTC unit
has received official recognition
from the City of Lewisville for the
many hours of community service de-
voted to all the organizations around
the city. The Navy JROTC program
offers a four (4) year curriculum of
Naval Science. In addition to the
Naval Science programs, the JROTC
offers courses in Drill, Aerospace
and Leadership. The unit has an av-
erage of 120 cadets onboard at any
one time. The Junior ROTC pro-
gram stresses patriotism, leadership,
and self-discipline.
This past April the Unit took a trip
to Corpus Christi where they took
part in Navy Damage Control Train-
ing and a Sea Cruise with the Coast
Guard. While they were there they
received praise on their military
conduct and discipline. The unit is
inspected by the Chief of Naval Edu-
cation and Training each year.
Our second inspection this year was
rated outstanding overall.
Back in May, THE TEXAS
COMPATRIOT Editor, Joe Bagley
presented the Sons of the American
Revolution Bronze ROTC Medal to
Cadet Ensign Virginia Lawson. A
second year cadet. In those two years
she has held the positions of Female
Color Guard Commander, CPO of
the Operations Department and the
Administration Department. She is
currently the Unarmed Drill Team
Commander and the Operations Of-
ficer. She enjoys JROTC so much
because it teaches her discipline,
leadership and the importance of
team work.
On June 1, 1995, the Lewisville
High School JROTC was informed
they had recieved the 1994-95 NavyHonor School Award.
This means the Lewisville High
School JROTC Unit ranks in the top
10% of Navy Units Nationally.

<>Editors Note: It was a privilige and
an Honor to present the Bronze SAR
Medal to a prominent Member of this
Distinguished JROTC Unit.
Dear Editor;
The "Education and the Founding
Fathers" video clearly sets forth the
educational system which produced our
great founding Fathers. You will learn
about the schools they attended as well
as many of the textbooks they used.
Discover how far we have strayed from
their specific plans to maintain a
successful educational system in
America and what can be done to
return to their original blueprint.
<>Examine the educational beliefs and
practices of founders like George
Washington, Governer Morris, Fisher
Ames, Samuel Adams, John Adams,
Noah Webster, Jedediah Morse,
Benjamin Rush, Thomas Jefferson,
John Quincy Adams, Daniel Webster,
and many others. The historical
inquiries are accompanied by many of
the famous portraits and pictorial
reliefs from America's history as well
as many of the original textbooks and
writings of the Founders. "Education
and the Founding Fathers" is an
excellent primer for those who want to
know more about what was intended
for American education by the
Founders, what worked successfully for
generations, and what can be done to
return America to its origninal guiding
philosophy of educational excellence.
This video is ideal; to share with home
gatherings, for Patrotic Organization
Speakers, Church groups, and Home
School History supplements.
