SOyf TyI MER
TXSSAR President James Robertson
have now had the opportunity to visit over a fifth of
our chapters. It has been a rewarding experience
enewing acquaintances and making new friends.
Corinne has accompanied me on several of these visits. As
always the hosts have been welcoming and most gracious. I
look forward to visiting with more of you during the coming
months.
On April 10 the Robert Rankin Chapter #62 in Katy was
constituted and their officers installed. The meeting was
attended by about 60 people, including two descendants of
Robert Rankin who briefed us about this Patriot.
Elsewhere in this issue you will find an article regarding
the recognition of April 19, Patriot's Day, here in Texas. Please
study this item and be prepared to discuss it at our August
Board meeting.
Our Patriot Fund Projects Committee, under the leadership
of Bob Truitt, has been wrestling with the problems of funding
our Youth Programs. We will soon be hearing from them
regarding plans to raise funds both inside and outside of the
Texas Society.
The SAR census forms were mailed in early March to
Compatriots whose surnames begin with the letters A throughG. As I visit chapters in various parts of the state, I find that
there are some A-G individuals who have not received their form.
If that is your case, please contact Chairman Ken McNeely and
he will see to it that you receive a form. This is an important
program to increase our membership. I encourage your
wholehearted participation.
Elsewhere in this issue you may read about the Revolutionary
War Patriot Grave Marking Project that the Texas Society is
undertaking. Similar information is on our website. I would
encourage each chapter to select a patriot's grave in their area.
In some cases, chapters may need to share one site.
At the 11211 Congress which convenes June 29, our fellow Texas
Compatriot B. Rice Aston will be inducted as President General.
It is a well deserved honor and recognition for a dedicated
individual.
Hopefully I will see many of you at our Board meeting in
Fort Worth on August 3 and 4. The registration form is on page
15.
