field area in order to determine the current practices and procedures
in their direction and operation. Particular study was given to the
factors which affected the number of persons to be served, housing
facilities and equipment, control and management, and the operating
income and expenditures of the school cafeterias.
Findings of this research were as follows: The majority of the
cafeterias ranked high in sanitation. They served wholesome food at
a fair price. The food and the salary costs were adequate. Some
cafeterias showed financial losses because rent and other overhead
expenses were charged to them. Other cafeterias reported profits
because they were not paying for the overhead expenses
Recommendations are made for all physical equipment, wages and
hours, and a proposed simplified bookkeeping system.
NEELY, THOMAS ORAN, A Comparative Study of the Effects of
Certain Visual Aids on Pupil Achievement in General Science. Master
of Science (Public School Administration), August, 1940, 45 p., 14
tables, bibliography, 4 titles.
This study is an experiment to determine the effectiveness of
certain visual aids on pupil achievement in general science. The data
were secured from teaching the pupils in eight classes of seventh
grade general science for a period of nine weeks each in the Reagan
Junior High School in Wichita Falls, Texas. The pupils who were
taught by the use of visual aids were matched in pairs with the pupils
with whom no visual aids were used. The result of the progress made
by the matched pairs on objective type tests is shown in the form of
direct comparisons. The first chapter deals with the scope and limita-
tions of the problem, the source of data, and a statement of some re-
lated studies. The second chapter deals with the initiation and exe-
cution of the experiment. The last chapter contains the findings and
the author's recommendation that visual aids should be used more
extensively in the teaching procedure.

The data for this study were secured largely from interviews t

The study is divided into seven sections, each of which consti- t

problem; the second is an analysis of the relation between the social c94
