2. A minimum of 12 hours will be required in the field of music
education, 3 hours of which will be the Admission Seminar, Music 528.
The remaining 9 hours may be selected from, Music 426-427, 436-437, 438-
439, 452, 465, 500, 508-509, 510, 511, 512, 630, 531-532, 580, and 585.
3. A minimum of 6 hours of music will be required which do not
deal with methods or techniques. They may be selected from Music 418-
419, 501, 505, 506, 507, 515, 518-519, 535, 536.
4. A minimum of 6 hours of credit must be scheduled in a field in
which the student meets the regular prescribed requirements for a mini-
mum. If the student schedules 12 or more hours within a single field, this
field will be designated his minor.
5. A maximum of 8 hours in applied music may be counted towards
the degree.
6. A minimum of two semesters of active participation in perform-
ance laboratory must be scheduled.
7. All students must show adequate proficiency in the following
areas: English usage, theory fundamentals and aural perception, ar-
ranging, sight-singing, functional piano, conducting, and major instru-
ment performance. The examinations for these proficiences will be given
once each semester. The student will be expected to take the examina-
tions each time they are given until he has passed. During the terminal
semester the student may petition one special examination in those areas
not certified.
8. During his final semester the student will be given a compre-
hensive examination (written and oral). The oral examination commit-
tee, consisting of not less than three members of the faculty, will be ap-
pointed by the Dean of the School of Music to ascertain the candidate's
professional qualifications. Deficiencies revealed by the comprehensive
examinations may result in the requirement of certain additional work.
