two songs, with a minimum of eight each in Italian, French, German, and
English, and at least four arias from opera or oratorio.
During the final semester of graduate study the student will be required
to present one complete recital from memory. The program for this recital
must be approved in advance by the Dean of the School of Music. Any recital
which is being presented as partial fulfillment of the requirements for a mas-
ter's degree in voice must be approved both in program content and in per-
formance quality by the voice faculty. The performance of the recital must be
approved at a hearing by the voice faculty at least three weeks prior to the
date of public presentation.

public, consisting of music which the candidate has studied since becoming a
graduate student at North Texas State University. The repertoire and memori-
zation requirements for this recital will be determined by the student's major
teacher, subject to the approval of the Dean of the School of Music. The re-
cital performance will be passed upon by a majority of those faculty members
in attendance from the student's area of performance.
The Degree Master of Music Education
The degree Master of Music Education is designed to provide an oppor-
tunity for the student to develop more successful teaching procedures, to pro-
vide leadership training in his chosen area of music education, to examine cur-
rent trends in music education, and to increase his musical potential.
Three basic differences exist between the Master of Music Education de-
gree, defined here, and the Master of Music (Music Education) degree. These
differences are (1) the Master of Music Education degree requires 36 hours of
course work while the Master of Music requires 32; (2) the Master of Music
Education degree does not necessarily include a thesis; and (3) the Master of
Music degree does not necessarily include 6 hours of course work outside the
field of music. Recitals are not required for either degree, but students are
encouraged to perform in solo recital.
The Admission Seminar, Music 528, is required of all students and must
be taken the first time the seminar is scheduled after the student begins work
toward this degree. At this time, the remainder of his degree program will be
planned. The selection of courses will be designed to meet the individual needs
of the student.
The faculty member conducting the Admission Seminar normally will
serve as the student's major professor. A minor professor, who may be from a
field outside of music, will serve as a member of the oral examination commit-
tee. This professor will be chosen from the faculty of the student's minor field.
Admission Requirements
The undergraduate prerequisites include a minimum of fourteen hours of
theory, six hours of music literature, six hours of music history, two semesters
of conducting, and six hours of methods courses in music.
Degree Requirements
1. The candidate must earn graduate credit amounting to a minimum of
thirty-six semester hours. At least eighteen hours must be in courses numbered
500 or above. Certain 400 courses may be approved by the student's major
professor for inclusion on his degree plan. Except in certain circumstances,
courses normally required for the baccalaureate degree in music education
will not be acceptable.
