The Hurst-Euless Bedford School District serves 17,700 students and is
composed of three communities directly west of the Dallas/Fort Worth
International Airport. The school district is comprised of 17 elementary
schools, 5 junior high schools, 2 high schools, a vocational center, and
a special education center. In addition to other excellent offerings,
the fine arts program is known to be one of the best in Texas. It spans
kindergarten through the twelfth grade in music, art, and theater
arts. There is strong commitment on the part of the community and staff
to provide the best program available.
4. Denton Independent School District, Denton, Texas
The Denton Independent School District is located in a university com-
munity of more than 50,000 people which is located at the northern point
of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. The school district serves 9,275
students and is comprised of 7 elementary schools, 2 junior high
schools, 1 senior high school, and 1 instructional (special educa-
tion) center. The arts programs are well-established and there is a
strong commitment to the arts in the community.
5. Pilot Point Independent School District, Pilot Point, Texas
The Pilot Point Independent School District serves 900 students in a
predominantly agricultural area which includes the city of Pilot Point
(population 2,300) as well as a rural area of 126.41 square miles in
Denton, Cooke, and Grayson Counties. Art courses have been a part of the
curriculum of the district for the past several years.
6. Amon Carter Museum of Western Art, Fort Worth, Texas
The Amon Carter Museum opened in 1961 to house paintings and sculptures
by Frederick Remmington and Charles Russell acquired by Fort Worth
publisher and philanthropist, Amon C. Carter, Sr. (1879-1955). Since its
founding, the museum has broadened the scope of the collection with
outstanding examples of 19th and early 20th century Americn art. Today,
the Museum houses a premier collection of paintings, sculptures, prints,
drawings and one of the foremost collections of American photographs.
The Museum's goal as seen in its collection, special exhibitions, public
programs and publications is to further the study and appreciation of
American art.
7. Dallas Museum of Art, Dallas, Texas
The Dallas Museum of Art is a public institution created in 1903 and
owned by the City of Dallas. It houses a comprehensive art collection
with special strengths in Pre-Columbian art, African art, and the decora-
tive arts. The purpose of the museum is threefold: to acquire the best
works of art in all areas as far as resources permit; to present exhibi-
tions that will bring to the public the broadest and best visual exper-
