Chairman of President’s Committee on Government
Employment Policy.
1945 - First state FEPC law - New York.
1946 - President Truman created Committee on Civil Rights,
Executive Order 9808.
1947 - NAACP presented "An Appeal to the World” to the
United Nations.
President’s Committee on Civil Rights report "TO
Secure These Rights” recommended fair employment
legislation at both national and state levels.
1948 - President Truman’s Executive Order 9981 directed
"equality of treatment and opportunity in the
armed forces.”
- President Truman named a committee to supervise com-
pliance with provisions against discrimination in
the United States government contracts and sub-contracts.
- President Eisenhower established a 15 member Government
Compliance Committee to supervise anti-discrimination
regulations.

1947 - First Negro radio station, WERD, started in Atlanta,
Georgia.
