The girl drawing the portrait sits in a chair, centered in the photo, with her back towards the left side of the photo as she faces her easel. There is also a tray of art supplies laying on the artist's lap, on top of a towel, while a bucket filled with a liquid sits on the ground near her right foot. The girl being drawn sits farther into the photo's background, next to the easel with her head turning to look at the portrait being created. The girl who's being drawn has her hair in pigtails and wears a sleeveless top, shorts, and shoes. Standing next a partially visible column that emerges from the left edge of the photo is a young boy, leaning against the column with his back to the camera as he turns his head to look at the portrait. The bottom left corner of the photo is slightly lighter and blurrier than rest of the image.
