Deans' grandsons, and later J. Michael Sullivan and Taylor Lang
and several others. He usually enjoyed the Hootenanny, including
the times he was in the middle of it. (Once when Erik was about
three, we arrived just as the Hoot was getting kicked off by John O.
West and before we knew it, Erik was there on stage with John
singing "Froggie Went a Courtin"' to Erik on his knee. When he
was much older, he played a snare drum solo that he had learned
that year for his band at one of the Hoots.)
Some of our favorite Hootenanny memories have been:
* Ab playing either the guitar or the bass fiddle, and espe-
cially him singing (or getting some audience participation
on) "The Strawberry Roan"
* Lee Haile singing the "Home-Grown Tomato" song
* Joyce Roach playing her fiddle (and why haven't we seen
her do that in recent years?)
