The Special Collections Department collects and preserves rare and unique materials including rare books, oral histories, university archives, historical manuscripts, maps, microfilm, photographs, art and artifacts. The department is located in UNT's Willis Library in the fourth floor Reading Room.

Full moon, warm summer nights, minerets [sic] silhouetted against the sky, thousands and thousands of men on the street and _no_ women -- except Linda and mother, of course -- of course, -- and then three _bleak_ days in Bulgaria and Russia. What _sad sad_ countries - even the Turks seem better off!. Eagerly anticipating our return to Greece -- sailing Bosporus and Dardenelles tomorrow. See you soon! Bill"

William H. "Bill" Nelson, Jr. and Jean Nelson Collection (The Dallas Way)
Letters, speeches, poetry, and memoirs predominately dated 1971-1990 written by mother and son, Jean and Bill Nelson. Bill Nelson was a GLBT civil rights activist who spoke out about the discrimination the gay community and persons with AIDS faced in the 1980s. After Bill passed away in 1990 from AIDS-related complications, Jean attended events in his memory.
