FORT WORTH - Mixing humor and
vitriol, exhortation and hate speech, Na-
tion of Islam figure Khallid Abdul Muham-
mad on Friday defended his attacks on
Jews, Catholics, whites and others.
He even notched the rhetoric up a bit
since November, when he labeled Jews
"bloodsuckers of the black nation" at a
speech at Kean College in Union, N.J.
Dr. Muhammad told a radio interview-
er hours earlier that he'd spoken out ofanger after Jewish protesters at the speech
called for the death of Nation leader Louis
Farrakhan - putting him on a "war pos-
ture."
But Dr. Muhammad told a raucous gath-
ering Friday night at a Fort Worth mosque
that he should have told the protesters,
"You're lucky you just got words out of me
and I didn't give you the bum's rush and
black-boot stomp the hell out of you."
As with many of his comments, that
one earned a standing ovation from the
virtually all-black crowd, estimated by or-ganizers at almost 600 people.
Last month, Mr. Farrakhan suspended
Dr. Muhammad as spokesman for the Na-
tion of Islam after the Kean College re-
marks became public.
Congress, Vice President Al Gore and
many groups denounced Dr. Muhammad's
comments, which included a call for black
South Africans to kill whites. He also la-
beled Pope John Paul II a "no-good crack-
er."
