SUBJ: "1 Year Countdown"
Per your request, here is a summary of the major tasks and goals ahead
of us as we enter the one-year countdown to the Games. Please share this
memo with members and supporters, so they know how far their support has
brought us, and how much more we need their help!
Basically, our efforts over the next twelve months will fall into two
key areas: 1) Outreach, and 2) Logistics. Here's an overview.
OUTREACH:
International: The Games is an unprecedented opportunity to show that
gays and lesbians are a truly international community. Our goal:
participants from at least 40 nations on six continents* We're well on our
way, with over 30 nations responding so far. We need special help to reach
out to countries in Africa, Asia and South America.
Domestic: Since the March on Washington in April, interest in the
Games has surged. Between the sporting and cultural events, the Games will

from every "hometown" in America... and coverage in every hometown
newspaper
Diversity: We're reaching out to gays and lesbians of all
descriptions: African-American grandmothers who swim; Latina cello players;
Asian collegiate basketball players, marathon-running Slavic lawyers;
Brazilian tennis players; playwriting lesbian mothers; you name it! The
Games is a chance to shatter every stereotype about gays and lesbians, and
empower all members of our diverse communities to participate.
Sports Governing Boards: Gay and lesbian athletes will set world
records at Gay Games IV. We're working to make them official, by receiving
sanctioning from international and domestic sports governing authorities in
swimming, wrestling, cycling and others. This is a major goal for us, since
world records make big. news! .
Cultural: The Gay Games IV Cultural Festival will be the biggest
expression of gay and lesbian artistry ever. Original music, drama, dance,
