Councilman McLleland laid the groundwork for a study of
Ft orth street projects this morning, by suggesting to
council members a roa&widening program on the East side
of the city be postponed. A section of Miller Avenue,
between East Rosedale and Hawlett, i alreajien
widened and improved, part of a plan to carve a major
thorofare between the Meadowbrook and Polytechnie areas.
From the Hawlett intersection to East Lancaster,
construction is still underway. Houses are being moved
back from the street, and $for sale' signs are becoming
common sights. Miller, from Hawlett to Lancaster, is
narrow, rough, and heavily traveled. The program to
widen Oakland and Miller has been underway for several
f
years, and last year, voters approved spending an
220,000
additional U dollars on I the project. Thus,
Councilman McLleland s proposal to postpone the plan
was something of a surprise. MaLleland asks the council
if there aren't more worthwhile projects in the city1:50
