It is also good news that our old friend
David Cain (who chose not to seek
endorsement this year because he was
sure it would be used against him in the
East Texas portion of his district) won
re-election as Senator from the Second
District.
In the State Legislature, the comfortable
victories by Harryette Ehrhardt and
newcomer Terri Hodge were very
positive news.
The Clinton/Gore victory nationwide
provides renewed hope that reasonable
judges will be appointed to any possible
vacancies on the Supreme Court. The continued influence of the
Authoritarian Republicans (read radical
right) in both the Senate and House of
Representatives virtually guarantee that
no legislation favorable to gay rights
will be passed during the next session.
We can only hope that the
Authoritarians make any negative laws
onerous enough that President Clinton
will have no choice but a veto.
The next session of the State Legislature
looks to be a genuine challenge for the
Lesbian/Gay Rights Lobby. The likely
majority of Republicans in the State
Senate means that the alliance of rural
Democrats and Radical Republicans will
make it very difficult to defeat negative
legislation.
If you have not rejoined the Lobby, this
is an important time to do that. Send

HOW OUR VOTES
AFFECTED KEY RACES!
In 16 precincts identified as
having significant numbers of gay and
lesbian voters, our endorsement appears
to have led to a significantly higher
margin for our endorsed candidates.
President Clinton and Vice
President Gore ran about twenty
percentage points higher in our target
precincts than they did county wide
winning over 69% of the vote.
Victor Morales ran only 1%
point behind Clinton taking 68% of the
vote in our precincts. He ran 21 points
higher in those areas than he did county
wide.
In general all of our endorsed
candidates ran between 16 and 21 points
higher in our precincts than they did
county wide.
Harryette Ehrhardt ran only 9
points higher in our precincts than she
did district wide (still a significant
margin).
Once again, we proved that our
endorsement carries favorable vote
tallies particularly in target precincts.s:\gpcnjrojcJoc VE
