It was not enough for socialite Fran
McNulty to read about the increasing inci-
dence of AIDS in Dallas and be concerned.'
It was not enough for her to go the AIDS
Resource Center and educate herself about the
deadly disease and consider collecting food
for AIDS patients.
It was time to do something big for AIDS
victims, she decided.
"I'm not afraid to stand up and be counted,"
said Mrs. McNulty, who with other Dallas civic
and social leaders announced plans Monday
for the largest local fund-raiser to support
AIDS services in Dallas.
A newly formed group, calling itself Dallas
Cares, will stage a "star-studded" variety show
on Oct. iS at the Loews Anatole hotel with the
goal of raising at least Si million for programs
dealing with acquired immune deficiency syn-
drome.
"AIDS is a problem that is not being ad-
dressed fast enough by our government," said
businesswoman and socialite Caroline Rose
Hunt, who with Mrs. McNulty is in charge of
the event. "So many people want to be hands
off when it comes to AID& We felt it was an
issue that needed a champion. I'm not afraid to
be one."

Surgeon General C. Everett Koop will be
among the honorary co-chairmen.
Broadway producer Barry Brown, who has
spearheaded similar fund-raisers in New York
and Chicago, will produce the show, backers
announced. Brown won a Tony award in 194
for his Broadway production of Le Coge Ax
