American airlirtes hostess Ruby Hatcher drove her room
mate to Love Field this morning, then stuck around
long enough to take a peek at a baby elephant, bound
for the petting zoo at Six Flags Over Texas. The new
arrival replaces another baby elephant, burned to
death in a tragic fire at the amusement park last
month. The elephant, which has not yet been named,
has become a seasoned traveler, flying from Bombay to
Dallas, about 11 thousand air miles. The one year old
female is supposed to weigh 325 pounds, but she shows
a reluctance to mount the scales, so the figure goes
unchecked.
Another American Airlines hostess, Karen McMillan,
agrees to feed the baby, as long as she doesn't have
to burp her. Baby is 38 inches tall, just the right
size for-a petting zoo. The zoo's original elephant
outgrew her suitability, and was sold to a circus.The elephant commands most of the attention, and her
