Script from the WBAP-TV/NBC station in Fort Worth, Texas, covering a news story about the cleaning and upkeep of the San Jacinto Monument; The 570 foot tall stone obelisk commemorating the winning of the battle for Texas independence from Mexico in 1836 is being sand-blasted to clean the exterior, and will be coated with a water sealant to help preserve the structure, which was opened to the public on April 21, 1939.
The Special Collections Department collects and preserves rare and unique materials including rare books, oral histories, university archives, historical manuscripts, maps, microfilm, photographs, art and artifacts. The department is located in UNT's Willis Library in the fourth floor Reading Room.
