TRACK MEET 3
APPROACHES HIGH JUMP BARMED. MAN IN WHITE
A new meet record is set in the high jump
by Colin Ridgway, an Australian graduate
student at Lamar Tech. He clears six feet,
seven, wiping out the six-six mark set by
TCU's Jacky Upton. The Worldis greatest
broad jumper is something of a disappointment.
Ralph Boston's best effort of the night is
24 feet, six and a half inches. That's
three-quarters of an inch short of the meet
mark and leaves Boston in an apologetic mood.
He says he could come out of bed with the flu
and jump 25 feet and adds, "I should apologize
to these people."
Darrell Horn, the Oregon State grad who is
a lieutenant in the Air Force station in
San Antonio, gets off the best jump of the
night, but he scratches as he leaves therunway and it's all for naught.
Hornrs
illegal leap measured " twenty-five feet, nine inches
mob.
