"Everybody" is anxious to see you in the Red Lands. I wou'd be
right "appie" to see you myself. Mrs. Sublett4 wou'd be glad to see
you to spend some time with them! If your sister can't come with
you, and you bring Maria5 along, don't come, but let me know it. If
Capt B, & sis, comes [sic] with you, let him bring four mules in the
carriage. They will be needful, and all the caution possible to save
the Ladies & the carriage-Get out at all bad places. Come by Cincinnati,
as persons are killed, on the upper road- by the Indians!!! I
need not write more as the news here wou'd not interest you. My
health improves much in my opinion! My stock of fine horses are
doing well. I am trading for a fine saddle mare, for you, and a hackney.The people improve in health, and I hope by the time that you
read[,] here all will have recovered!
Mr Vance, the Gentleman who bears this letter, is an old friend
of mine from Tennessee! Let him be treated as such!!! I wish my dear
wife to become acquainted with Mr Vance, as he will be pleased,
and can tell the truth when he returns to Tennessee.
By Mr. V. I send you $100 in Texas money and only regret that I
cannot send you a Million in Gold. As Mr. Vance is on the eve of
departure, I will only add my infinite love to you, and my affection
to our dear Sis, and the Captain.-If necessary for your happiness,
send an express to me and I will be with you. All my friends here
desire me to present their cordial esteem & estimation.
Do write to me, and should you set out, come by Cincinnati. Be
careful. Idol of my affections, Adieu.
