Government red tape being what it -is, an army
corporal and his bride-to-be are five thousandmiles apart on their wedding day.
MED. MAN WITH PHONE
Corporal Thomas Wysong of Indianapolis, Indiana,
says it' s now or never. In the absence of the
bride, Peace Justice Byrd of Dallas agrees to
perform a marriage by proxy. He lines up his
court bailiff, L. W. Earhardt, as a witness and
enlists his wife, Mrs. Doris Byrd, to stand-in
for the bride.
LONG GROUP
It's all done by long distance telephone. The
bride is in Kaiserlatern, Germany where Wysong
met her in 1957 while stationed nearby. He's i
been trying to wed her ever since and that'swhere the red tape kept getting in the way.
