The plane,piloted by Navy Lieutenant Anthony Baiamonte, was coming in
for a landing at the Dallas Naval Air Station, when it hit
the water. Baiamonte, a reservist who lived at 1908 Canelo
Drive in Dallas, was married, and was the father of two
small children, a boy and a girl.Aviation MIchinist Mate third class Norman Stowell was an
witness to the crash and he says this is what happened:
Baiamontesa Fury Jet had made the customary pass over the
South Runway, and was circling back to make his landing.
As Baiamonte made his final turn, the aircraft continued to
slant downward, and the plane hit the water. An explosion
followed. A helicopter was in the air minutes after the
crash alarm was Bounded. Captain V.c. Holzaphel, the base
commander, took personal charge of rescue operations butthe pilot could not be saved.
