By GEORGE MoBRAYER
It juat wasn't our night to win that's all . . . If it had been we
would have gotten that break that wins that kind of a game. The
boys played hard. They played to win but so did Trinity and the
won. We are not beefing because we feel that we won a moral vic-
tory anyway. We lost to a mighty good team and you can bet that
the Tigers are going to be mighty hard to put out of the way in their
remaining' games.
however that they are still in the
raoe. This game was to show just
what the lilies had on the ball
any many a forecaster is still rub-
bing his head over the fray even if
we did lose.. Trinity Is dreaded by
every member of the conference
that has not playsd them.. They
are popular as a winning team so
by our playing them such a olose
game we demonstrated Just what
we oould do.
Coach Ransom was well pleased
with the showing the boys made.
"I think the boys played a nice
game and they proved to me just
what they can do. We were ex-
pected to be beaten pretty bad"
he said.
We now stand a half game be-
hind the conference leader How-
ard Payne. . The Jaokets were
trimmed Friday night by East
Texas State Teachers 13-6 at
Commerce. The Jaokets have yet
to play St. Edwards who was
defeated by the lilies 6-0; South-
western and ACC. The Pirates
and the Crusaders are both gun-
ning for the Jackets In no small
way for revenge of last year's
hard losses. The Pirates should
take the Jackets as they are play-
ing on their home field and appear
along with the Crusaders as the
only team to stop them. It is my
guess that. neither team will suffer
many defeats this year. They are
potent in every department and
have plenty of experience. ACC
has been defeated by Southwestern
26-7 but don't ever count them
out They are primed to give
someone some trouble. They still
like to play football and a loss
like that is liable to put what-
ever Is nseded to upset an un-
beatable team.
Well anyway if the Jackets
are tipped over for a loss and the
Billies continue to win we will
vault into first place again with
St. Edwards. If the Jackets take
St. Edwards and then are defeat-
ed by the Southwestern Pirates
then the Billies take undisputed
possession of first place. However
the Billies have to hurdle the Pi-
rates too-but that is several days
off.
We are still In the picture. We
have a good team.- But we have
some hard games to play. I be-
lieve we have the defense to hold
them and If our offense Is click-
ing we should take them all. How-
ever these are the sentiments of
me only. If this turns out to be
so then only I oan waller in the
puddle of a successful prognostic
oator. Here's hoping.
The line looked mighty good
against the Tigers. They did re-
markably well against a more ex-
perienced team. Time after time
the boys broke through and threw
the Tigers for losses. They held
tighter than the Tigers on running
plays and held them as close oth-
erwise. Our backfield has been
hampered by injuries the last three
games. Whltmire is not at all ef-
fective with his injury and sooner
or later will have to have it ope-
rated on.
Stewart Is still suffering from
his shoulder Injury. He has been
effeotlve In his passing but has
passed under trying pain. Hopper
has plnoh hit for Billy and has
done well but now Is probably out
of the MoMurry game due to a leg
Injury received Friday night; this
leaves only Whltmire as a starter
here. Because of this two Fresh-
man flashes Chambers and Klrby
are almost sure to see lots of ao-

Powerful Trinity
Edges Billies 7-0
Ending three weeks domination
of the top rung in the conference
ladder the Daniel Baker Hill
Billies succumbed to a 7-0 defeat
before a capacity Sam McLaughlin
crowd Friday night.
This was the first score and set-
back on the Billies in three confer-
ence games. The score came in
the second quarter.
The game was played in the
hisrh school stadium before a
crowd of y more than 3000. Net
proceeds of the game went to
Sam McLaughlin who received a
broken neck in spring training.
The only touchdown followed a -blocked
punt. The Tigers recov-
ered on the Billie 17-yard line
and on the next play Kunkel pass-
ed to the all-conference end
Lockhard. for the tally. Kooken's
kick was good. Lockhard Kooken
and J. B. Higgins set the stage for
the winning count as they broke
through and smothered Hopper's
attempted punt.
Hopper's passes to Cauley were
highlighted in the game. One
pass Hopper to Cauley advanced
the ball to the Trinity 3-yard line
in the third quarter. However
the powerful Trinity line held the
fighting Billies on downs.
They held again in the third af-
ter Kooken kicked out on the Tiger
46 and Hopper made a beautiful
23-yard return to the 23-yard line.
Again the Hopper to Cauley pass
combination clicked to the Tiger
2-yard line. After the ball was
advanced to the one-yard line. The
Tigers then demonstrated their
ability to hold. The Billies relin-
quished the ball on the one.
Trinity punts kept the Billies
deep in their own territory the
first of the quarter. Midway in
the period the Tigers had a touch-
down pass nullified by an off-side
penalty.
Bearder intercepted Stewart's
pass on the Billie 23 and then
Kunkel's pass to Wheeler was
good over the goal.
Leading a drive from the 21 No-
len and Kunkel advanced the boll
to the Billie 2-yard mark as the
game ended.
The Billies led in first downs
eight to seven in yards rushing
131 to 103 and in yards passing
75 to 48. Baker lost 40 yards
rushing to Trinity's 21. Net yard-
age from scrimmage was 146 to
130 in favor of Daniel Baker.
Outstanding in the Billies line-
up was Cauley Hopper and Bit-
tick for the offense. The defense
was led by Stewart Thompson
Davenport and English.
The Tigers were sparked by
the superb kicking of Kooken and
tlon.
The line fared pretty well
though Shults is still suffering
from a sore side. However he
has been played most of every
game. The Indians are reported
to be in good shape physically so
we can expect one of Daniel Bak-
er's roughest games tomorrow.
We should take this one but it
most certainly won't be a push-
over. The Indians have a good
team; one that bowls any oppo-
nent over when they get the Idea
that McMurry is easy to beat.
They can pass and they can run
and when a team can do this they
are a threat In anybody's league.
PEP RALLY TONIGHT
There will be a pep rally in the auditorium tonight at
6:30 o'clock. The football boys will leave for Abilene imme-
diately after the rally.
The last two meetings have been good ones but now is
the time to make it even better. We have one of our hardest
games tomorrow with the Indians and you don't realize just
how much the team appreciates it. It means a lot to them.
Be here tonight and lets send the boys off in such a frame
of mind that will make the Abilenians regret they ever played
football. Show them you're behind them! When you do
note the difference it makes on the football field.
Another thing if any of you students have a chance to
go to Abilene don't fail to go. If you can't make it then
let some one else go in your place. We want a rooting section
there that can be heard all over that Indian reservation. We
want victory and we are going to get it if you will just
do your part.
Let's back those Billies!
the pass receiving of Charlie Lock-
hard. Captain Nolen also turned
in a good game.

To you Sam
We know that while the band
plays and the crowd cheers
Sam though not present still
hears.
He is waiting the moments to
slowly pass
And to hear the score at the
last.
He is playing the game down
by down
And he feels swell as a score is
chalked down.
We do not see him but we feel
him there
As the boys march on and the
band does blare.
But when the ball is passed on
down
And from the stands there's not
a sound
That's when Our Daniel Baker
feels most blue
Then they think; Sam still pulls
for you.
From this day on and until the
last play
Let's aU fight! That's what Sam
would say.
And if we are losing and things
look the worst
Remember Sam's courage is
there as from the first.
So as the ball goes down and
the cheers go up
Come on team! Don't give up.

Baker Hopes To
Evade Scalping
Leaving in a none-to-happy
frame of mind over the many In-
juries on Billie squad Head Coach
Shorty Ransom takes off tonight
at 7 o'clock with about thirty
players to Invade the Abilene In-
dian reservation for a conference
fray with the McMurry Indians.
The game will be played in the
McMurry stadium starting at 2
o'clock Saturday afternoon and
will be the highlight of the Mc-
Murry homecoming festivities.
Due to the high toll of Injuries
on the Billie squad Coach Ransom
will probably rely pretty heavy
upon a lot of his reserves.
The Billies have been through a
hard week of practice despite In-
juries in order to find something
that will hold the McMurry of-
fensive. Coming out of the Trinity
game with almost every member
injured in some way they' have
tried to bolster the spots where
the injuries are the heaviest
Hopper who is suffering an
injured hip will probably not play
at all. Whltmire is still nursing a
sore and swollen knee but will
probably get the nod in Hopper's
place. Two freshmen backs
Klrby and Chambers have been
showing up pretty good and will
more than likely be called on to
give the backfield some rest.
Chambers is especially effective at
carrying the ball.
Stewart Shults Howard Cauley
and English are all afflicted with
minor Injuries but wul probably
be ready to go by game time.
Backing up these positions for
duty will be Campbell Gleaton
Christian Gaddy Trussell and
Barton. These boys are in pretty
good shape and are hankering to
get in there and do something.
Trussell and Christian played
