of Bay City, right, view a WCJC archives photograph of the late
Harold A. Hansen of Danevang after the Hollands presented
$10,000 to the College for an endowment fund in memory of the

for 24 years.
$10,000 Fund Established
In Memory Of Harold Hansen
A $10,000 endowment
fund in memory of the
late Harold A. Hansen of
Danevang has been
established at Wharton
County Junior College in
Wharton by his daughter
and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Robert E. Holland
of Bay City.
Interest on the
generous donation will be
used primarily for stu-
dent scholarship
assistance, specialized
equipment for health oc-
cuptions programs, and
library material accor-
ding to Dr. Theodore
Nicksick, Jr., president
of the college.
Hansen, who died in
1971, was elected to the
original College Board of
Trustees in 1946 and serv-
ed continuously until his
resignation in 1970.
“My father spent so
many years with the col-
lege that we wanted to do
something for his
memory,” said Mrs.
Holland, the former
Evelyn Hansen. The
Hollands are ranchers
and farmers. Their son,
Glenn, attends Wharton
County Junior College.
They recall that
Hansen regretted he was
never able to attend col-
lege himself but the pro-
gressive pioneer farmer,
agricultural leader and
civic worker devoted
much of his life to helping
others obtain the advan-
tages of a higher educa-
tion.
In gratitude, the
Duson-Hanson Fine Arts
Building at the college
was named in his honor
in 1968 along with another
original member of the
Board, Donald M Duson
of El Campo.
One of Mr. Hansen’s
many interests at the col
lege was the J. M Hodges
Learning Center where
the active Danevang
Farmers Cooperative
Society member
developed a vast collec-
tion of the history of
farmers’ cooperative
enterprises. His family
moved from Denmark to
Texas in 1894 and helped
settle Danevang, founded
by the Danish People
Society (Dansk
Folkesamfund) and
widely known for its
cooperative endeavors.
Hansen was born in
Danevang in 1897 and
married the former Ella
Olson in 1922 Mrs
Hansen lives in
Danevang.
