24, 25 and 2S in Bay City at
the Gulf Coast Classic Cham
pionship Truck Ji Tractor
Pull
Tractors, modified and
super-stock trucks will be
revving their engines
preparing for the big puli’.
The G. W. Townsend
Arena, located at the
fairgrounds on Mammon
Road 2.2 miles south of
Highway 35. will be the place
for this championship “pull-
off". The brand new indoor
rodeo arena is capable of
seating 5,000 individual peo-
ple, and concessions to be
provided by the Matagorda
Co. 4-H clubs will also be an
added attraction.
The event opening at S
p m. FTiday, Sept. 24, will
feature ON lb. super-stock
trucks, 9M0 lbs modified
trucks, 7500 tbs. open trac-
tors, MOO lb. prootock trac-
ors and, if enough entered,
.ocal tractors.
Saturday's event also
opens at 8 p.m. and will in-
clude 6200 lbs modified
trucks, 5500 lbs. open trac-
tors, MOO lb. open tractors,
11.500 lb. pro-stock tractors
and local trucks.
Super-stock weighing 5800
lbs , 6500 lb. open tractors,
10.500 lbs. open tractors and
13.500 lb. pro-stock tractors
will be featured Sunday
beginning at 3 p.m.
Tickets will be available at
the door — adults, 96. and
children 12 and under, $3
Local entrants include: La
Machine owned by Billy Me
Cormick of Edna, Coyote
Chaster owned by Wayne
Cothran of Angleton and the
Tasmanian Torker owned by
Mike Davenport of Danbury
Other entrants include:
the Bullfrog, Foolish
Pleasure, Moo Juice, Gold
Digger, Ole’ Blue and
Hopeless Case.
The event, sanctioned by
the Lone Star Truck and
Tractor Pullers Association
from Lyford, will be hosted
by the Agri-Shows, Inc.
Astro World’s Oktoberfest Runs For Five Weeks
With summer ending and
the crisp excitement of fall
quickly approaching,
festival lovers will again
have the opportunity to
celebrate the change of
season in a truly traditional
way as Astro World hosts is
second annual Oktoberfest
for five consecutive
weekends which began Sept
24

the air and mingle with the
gay polka music of strolling
oompah bands, as park
patrons make their way to
the central gathering area of
all Oktoberfests; the

At the Festhalle, nestled
among the castles of Not-
tingham Village, the enter-
tainment never stops. Stap-
dancen perform traditional
folk dances and often get the
audience involved; yodlers
sing, brass bands play lively
polkas, and just as the fast
pace seems too much, the
melancholy beauty of the
