Did you hear about the
saloonkeeper in Idaho who
called his saloon “The Naked
Truth Saloon?” In an
advertisement of his place he
set forth the naked truth. The
advertisement went like this”
. “Having just opened a
commodious shop for the sale
of liquid fire, I embrace this
opportunity of informing you
that I have commenced the
business of making
drunkards, paupers, and
beggars for the sober,
industrious, and respectable
portion of the community to
support.” In finality, he
added: “I have a license, and
if I do not bring these evils
upon you, somebody else
will.”
In comment, the naked
truth needs to be impressed
upon us lest we fall for the
message communicated by T.
V. jingles and commercials,
newspaper advertisements
and radio spots which extol
the drinking of beer, whiskey,
wine and other alcoholic
beverages. The truth is that
there is an army of alcoholics
totaling ten million or more.
They are America’s walking
dead. They have been
reduced to human vegetables,
minds gone, wills wrecked.
Stand and watch them march
by day and night in single
file. The procession of those
m
clobbered by the alcohol
industry and its friends
stretch for 1738 miles. You
would have to stand for
twenty-four heartbreaking
days and nights to watch this
parade of human derelicts
pass by.
The evils of alcoholic
beverages are innumerable. It
deceives, divides, destroys
and damns humanity. It ruins
marriages, collapses homes,
wastes wealth, numbs the
brain, sludges the blood,
impairs concentration, affects
the vision and shortens life.
The naked truth about any
use or influence for the use of
alcoholic beverages should be
known.
The Bible declares: “At the
last it biteth like a serpent,
and stingeth like an adder.”
(Prov. 23:32). Some rear
their children in a drinking
atmosphere. They introduce
their children to the use of
alcoholic beverages with the
idea that they can train a
child to use it properly. The
Bible says that it is wrong to
lead your neighbor to drink
and assuredly this would be
true of your own child. (Hab.
2:15). In fact, the whole
weight of the Bible’s
authority is against the use of
beverage alcohol. A Christian
should not cater in any way
toward it.
