Recite Vows In Baptist Church
Willhelms Celebrate
Golden Anniversary
An archway entwined with
greenery and flanked with
white baskets of floral
arrangements decorated the
Belvue Baptist Church for the
wedding ceremony of Miss
Glenda Faye Wagoner and
Robert Lee Roberts, Jr.
The bride’s step-father,
Rev. Wayne Shuffield,
officiated the August 8
ceremony.
The bride is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Shuffield
of Baird and Mr. and Mrs. R. L.
Roberts of 287 Van Street in
Kermit, are the parents of the
groom.
Debbie Shuffield played
wedding selections on the
piano and she accompanied
Wayne Shuffield, Jr. as he sang
“Bless The Hour.”
The bride was radiant in a
wedding gown of white satin
with a sculptered lace overlay.
It was enhanced with sequins
and beads.
In keeping with tradition,
the bride wore something old,
something new, something
borrowed and something blue.
She also carried two pennies in
one shoe, one with her birth
year and the other with the
birth year of the groom. In her
other shoe she carried a six
pence that was a gift to her
mother by Mrs. Bert Jones.
The bride carried a
cascading bouquet of white
satin roses and woodfiber
carnations held in place with
white satin ribbons with
matching wedding bands tied
in love knots and falling from
! the bouquet.
Mrs. James Cotton served
her sister as matron of honor.
Bridesmaids were Mrs. Gary
Mercer, Kayla Roberts, sister
of the groom and Vicki Burns.
The attendents all wore floor
length gowns with a sheer
overlay of blue and green
print. Their gowns featured an
empire waist which was
banded in satin and tied in
back and fell around the skirt.
Each also wore blue and green
satin bows with streamers tied
in their hair and carried
nosegays of blue satin roses.
Others serving in the
houseparty included Shethelia
Lewis, Cynthia Carter, Tabby
Martinez, Mrs. Tommy
Peyton, Teresa Shepherd and
Mrs. John Robertson.
The groom’s father, R. L.
Roberts, served as best man,
and groomsmen were Gary
Mercer, John Stout and Harry
Roberts, uncle of the groom.
The groom’s attendents wore
brown tuxedos with mint
green ruffled shirts.
Ring bearer for the
ceremony was Bill Talkington,
cousin of the groom, and
Cammy Hall served as the
flower girl.
Guests were seated by
ushers Jack Hunter and
Tommy Peyton.
Flowers for the occasion
were made by Mrs. Betty
Roark.
Following the wedding
ceremony, the bride’s parents
hosted a reception in the
fellowship hall of the church.
The bride’s table was covered
with a light green cloth with a
lace overlay and featured a
four tier confection made by
Mrs. Wilma Adams and
decorated with white doves
and bells linked with blue
icing. The cake was topped
with the traditional bride and
groom dolls.
Chocolate cake was served ‘
from the grooms table which
was covered with a hand
crocheted cloth. The cake was
topped with cartoon bride and
groom dolls.
Crystal and silver
appointments were used. .
The groom’s parents hosted
a rehearsal supper with a back
yard bar-b-que on Saturday
night before the ceremony.
Following a wedding trip to
Del Rio and Corpus Christi,
the couple will make their
home in San Antonio where
the groom is employed with
the City Police Department
and the bride is employed with
the G. P. M. Life Insurance
Company in San Antonio.

of Big Spring, Deloris
Pennington, of Lovington N.
M., Debra Wright of Baird, Mr.
and Mrs. G. P. Richter of
Cotulla, Mrs. Floyd Roberts of
Los Angeles, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Roberts, Tina and Leslie
of San Antonio, Mr. and Mrs.
B. F. Talkington and Bill of
Alice, Mr. and Mrs. D. L.
Roberts, Louis and David of
George West, Mr. and Mrs.
Jack Black and Paul of Odessa,
and Mr. and Mrs. J. A.
Roberts, Jr. Mike, and Rena of
Monahans.
MR. AND MRS. JOE M. WILLHELM
Mr. and Mrs. Joe M.
Willhelm were honored
Sunday afternoon with a 50th
anniversary reception in their
home at 900 Robinson.
Hosting the event were
children of the couple, Mr. and
Mrs. Riley Long of Eastland,
Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Willhelm
and Mr. and Mrs. J. F.
Willhelm all of Wink, Mr. and
Mrs. James Willhelm of
Odessa, Mr. and Mrs. Roy
Gene Thomas and Mr. and
Mrs. Paul T. Willhelm all of
Kermit. A son Charlie
Willhelm and family of
Algiers, North Africa was
unable to attend.
Joe M. Willhelm and Mittie
Mack were married August 21,
1926 in Eastland County
where they made their home
until moving to Winkler
County in 1928. Mr. Willhelm
is a retired roustabout and
truck driver.
The serving table was
covered with a lace cloth and
held a gold and white bouquet
of carnations and babies
breathe. A three-tiered
anniversary confection and
punch were served from
crystal appointments by
granddaughters of the couple.
In honor of Mr. and Mrs.
Willhelm’s fifty years
together, their children
presented her with a gold
mother’s ring and he received a
gold pocket watch.
Special guests of the couple
were twenty-one of their
twenty-seven grandchildren,
three great grandchildren, and
a brother of Mr. Willhelm, I. E.
Willhelm of Pecos.
SMILE^WHILE-
Drafted as a fourth at
bridge, a reluctant husband
managed to remove himself
from the game by looking at
his hand and muttering: “Let’s
see. I’ve got a 10 of valentines,
an A of clovers, a nine of
arrowheads, and a...”
Fire Department To Hold Social
An ice cream social is
scheduled at 7 p.m. Saturday,
Aug. 28, for members of
Kermit Fire Department and
their families.
The event will be held at
Winkler County Park and is
sponsored by the Ladies
Auxiliary.
Each family is to bring a
freezer of ice cream and eating
utensils, according to an
auxiliary spokesman.
Several games will be held
including a sack race, water
polo with fire truck, egg
throwing, tricycle relay,
volleyball, and three-legged
race. Games are for all
members of the family and
ribbons will be given through
sixth place.
McDonalds Have
Weekend Guests
Weekend guests in the
home of Mr. and Mrs. H. V.
McDonald included Mrs. A. F.
Criswell of Merkle and the
McDonald’s nephew and wife,
Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Brewer of
Dallas.
The McDonald’s son and
his wife of Kermit, Mr. and
Mrs. W. L. McDonald, were
also guests on Sunday.
