WAYLAND NUDGES
INDIANS IN NAIA v
The Wayland Pioneers won
their way into the N.A.I.A. Tour-
nament of Kansas City by beat-
ing the McMurry Indians 101-94
at the Plainview High School
Gym Thursday night.
The Texas Conference Cham-
bion Indians pushed the highly
favored Pioneers and stayed
within ten points of the winners
all the way. The Wayland vic-
tory was the third win of season
for the Pioneers over McMurry.
The Indians took an early lead
and led until Wayland tied it up
at 26-20. The Pioneers took the
lead and held it at half-time 55-51.
A jump shot by Jerry English -
put the Indians back into the
lead for the last time 65-64 but
Wayland regained- it a minute
later and gradually increased it
for the seven point victory.
Jim Jowell and Fred Shelton
led the Indians with 22 points
each followed closely by English
.with 16. Roy Young with 32 and
Max Newman with 29 were the
big guns for Wayland.
The game closed McMurry's
season with 8 wins and 17 losses.
It was also the last game for three
seniors Jowell Shelton and
English. -
