Notes

Photograph of 300 E. Neches taken from the road. Photo was taken for the Historic Resources Survey of Palestine, Texas 1989-1991. The Tudor Revival style gained popularity after the Craftsman bungalow lost favor among local residents and home builders. Most of these houses were small in size and featured frame construction covered with brick. This property is somewhat small, but has wood siding over the frame construction. Architectural elements that identify the property as an example of the Tudor Revival style include the steeply pitched, cross-gable roof, the elaborately detailed brick chimney on the front, and the round-arched main entrance, which is set within a small gabled extension. Boone Hombs and his wife Inez were the original owners and occupants of this bungalow, and they continued living here until at least 1941. Mr. Hombs was co-owner of the Swift and Hombs Bookstore, located at 211 W. Main.
