Burglary Loot Recovered
All ot the bottles and crates
taken in a New Year’s burglar-
ly at Yonce Foot Market have
been recovered, but as yet
police have not caught up with
the culprits.
About 1,000 bottles and a
number of hulls (crates) were
taken from a shed behind the
store sometime over the New
Year holiday. Thieves ap-
parently backed a truck up to,
the shed.
Howe Police Chief Jerry Halt-.
mark said an anonymous tele-
phone tip was received last
week that the loot was hidden
on a farm south of town.
Hallmark and a sheriff’s de-
puty went to the old Dickens
place, searched through var-
ious abandoned buildings and
finally located the. entire stock
of stolen items in an old
chicken house.
The goods were returned to
the market.

PILL POPPING—
NEW NATIONAL PASTIME
It is hard to believe that according to recent reports,
about half the public swallows some type of pill every
24 hours. This compares to jthe one in three who said
they had read a magazine or one in 20 who
participated in an active sport.
There is much danger in indiscriminate taking of
medication and we as pharmacists are very much
aware of the problems. We caution and urge people to
consult their family physician when they are ill. Self-
medication in other than very simple circumstances
can cause more harm than good.
You or your doctor may phone us when you
need a delivery. A great many people entrust us
with their prescriptions, health needs and other
pharmacy products. Charge Accounts available.

Letter
to
The Editor
Dear Editor:
(Note: This letter is aimed
only at fans who are’guilty.)
I have lived with the fol-
lowing feelings for the past
five games and I can’t hold
them any more.
The people of Howe amaze
me. Why this town hires
coaches is a mystery,to me..
The town seems to know more
about coaching than the
coaches do. By the way, most
of this could apply to football
as well as basketball. Look at
all the precious money our
school system could save if
they didn’t hire coaches. They
have plenty in the stands
doing it free.
For the past five games the
Howe crowd (some of it) has
done everything but tar and
feather our coaches or coach.
I should say. They laugh
when he screams his voice off
trying to make his team realize
they’re playing a game called
basketball.
They throw smart remarks.
If they thought about it a
moment, when he’s griping,
we ought to be blowing out of
the gym. But it doesn’t matter
if we win. After all, we’ll all
forget about it tomorrow. Our
coach has a hell of a job. Most
of the fans act like they would
enjoy a chance to give it a
whirl. Fine. Go to college,
get your degree, and do it.
But I’ve been on that floor. I
know what I had on my mind
as a sophomore and junior.
Most of the time a good chew-
ing out on the court brought it
back to the gym.
I wish we had half the sup-
port we do criticism. We’d be
state champs. Ask White-
wright. They’ve been there.
Howe’s never been past Bi-
District. Or in many, many
years. We’ve won district five
years out of the last six years'
yet our football crowds double
our basketball. That’s good to
have big crowds, but how
about giving equal time to
both sports.
If the school stystem, town,
and everything else would
keep their noses out of what
the coach does, we may be up
there with Whitewright one of
- hese days.
A faithful fan and happy to
to sign ,
Vincent Hash

To Boost
Rate Demand

action was part of the pack-
age.
However, Roberts said, he
doesn’t feel council is inclined
to jump to grant the increases.
I think if you checked any-
one’s gas bill for the past two
years you would find that the
rate has gone up plenty under
the increased gate rate
charge,” he said. ‘‘Why they
need this other rate increase,
too, I don’t know, but T has to
stop someplace.”
Roberts said he has been
unsuccessful in getting in con-
. tact with the new head of the
State Utilities Commission.
The commission doesn’t form-
ally go into effect until Jan.
15.
Council has expressed an in-
terest in getting its rate-mak-
ing situation put into the
hands of the commission, if
such a move appears feasible.
Roberts said he hopes to
have more information by
Thursday night’s council
meeting.
