The Bulldogs roared to an
easy opening game win over
Celina, 16-0, in the first round'
of the Pottsboro Tournament
Thursday, then came back
with a good game against
Pottsboro Fridayjn losing,
4-2.
Eyentual tournament winner
was Bells, which defeated
Pottsboro on Saturday, 4-3.
For the Bulldogs, Mark
England who pitched nearly
flawless ball in the opener and
had four hits in the two
Howe games, was picked for
the all-Tournament Team.
England alldwed only one hit
in four ^innings he pitched in
the opener, and drove in five
runs with a double and single.
The game was called due to
the time limit at the end of 3V2
innings with Howe in front of
the Bobcats, 16-0.
Howe scored 3 in the first
inning, 3 in the second and 10
in the third. Bobby Hawkins
led the Bulldogs at the plate
with a triple and two doubles
and four runs batted in. James
: • Davis had two hits and two
runs batted in.
Also hitting safely in the
game were Johnny Jones, Stu
Highlander, Stacey Raney and
Tony Wall with one hit each.
England struck out six bat-
ters in the four innings he
pitched.
In Friday’s game against
Pottsboro the Cardinals
pushed across a pair of runs in
the top of the final inning to
break a 2-2 tie. The Bulldogs
failed to score in their last at
bat, and thus were eliminated
from the tourney.
Hawkins pitched a six hitter
and struck out five in record-
ing the loss for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs could manage
only four hits—a double and
single by England, and singles
by Highlander and Davis.
Coach Rick Clements said he
was extremely pleased with
the team’s performance, con-
sidering the lack of practice.
The Bulldogs now have a
long layoff until their next
game on April- 1 at White-
wright, when they will take
part in the Whitewright Tour-
ney.
They then will remain idle
another three weeks before
district play starts.
The Bulldogs’ three home
games this year will be played
at Grayson County College,
because the new baseball field
is not expected to be in shape
for games this spring.^
The word “cattle" comes
from the Latin capitale mean-
ing wealth or property. At
<3ne time it meant all domes-
tic animals. Now it is used
only for bovines.
Trackmen Finish Fourth at Grapevine
The Howe Bulldog boys’
track team, despite a crip-
pling attack from the flu bug,
turned in its best performance
of the year Saturday, finishing
fourth among 14 teams in its
division at the Grapevine
meet.
The effort by the Bulldogs
produced 33 points, and in
most events the Bulldogs cut
down on their previous best*
times, even those many of
Saturday’s races were run into
the face of strong winds.
Because of flu or conflicts the
team was without the efforts
of Mark Harper, Britton Rob-
bins, Ricky Perkins, Ken Jen-
nings, Tony AVall, James
Helms, Tommy Wall, James
Davis and others, t’i.
John Morris and Keti Helvey
turtied in to top individual
performances for the Bull-
dogs. Morris picked up 8
points fqr Howe by finishing
second in the 880-yard run in a
time of 2:15, and Helvey gar-
nered 8 with a second-place
finish in the 100-yard dash
with a time of 10.5.
The 440 and mile relay -jams
each finished fourth and pick-
ed up 8 points each. The 440
relay team had a time of 46.7,
its best of the year, and the
mile relay -team finished in
3:51.
David Monk picked up a
point with a 24.8 finish in the
220-yard dash.

This week the Bulldog track
squad will compete on Friday
in a’ meet at Pottsboro which
will include most of the
schools-from district 14-A and
will give Howe its first good
chance to look at its district
competion.
Coach Blackie Wade said
that in addition to the exper-
ience and practice the team is
gaining in its full schedule of
meets this year, complete re-
cords are being kept for the
first time. This will mean the
establishment of school re-
cords in each event and will
give future track team mem-
bers goals at which they can
aim.

Good news for pet owners:
a vaccine is now available to
prevent canine parainfluenza,
considered the major viral
contributing factor to tra-
cheobronchitis (kennel cough)
which afflicts thousands of
dogs annually,
Business
Directory
This respiratory infection
is-transmitted mainly through
the air wherever dogs mingle—
kennels, dog shows, or at
play. Canine parainfluenza
virus is often a significant
part of the cause. Veterinar-
ians have not had a vaccine
against it until now.
SPEAKERS OF
YOUR HOUSE
There are some 120 name- (
brand .manufacturers of
speakers on the market, so the
best advice one can give when
choosing a speaker is to start
with a budget in mind and do a
lot of listening.
When auditioning a speaker
in a showroom make sure you
hear each set of speakers at the
same sound level. Otherwise,
sound experts at the Electronic
Industries Association point
out, you will tend to favor the
louder speaker every time.
* * *
Once you pick your speaker,
you will need to know how
much power it requires to give
you decent output. Most
efficient are the larger floor
standing speakers, and these
will require less amplifier
power.
