As Women's History
Month begins with the cele-
bration of achievements
through gender differences a
new type of Chapel is coming
to the ACU campus
Men and women will meet
in separate locations for
Chapel April 17 for a devo-
tional tailored to minister
specifically to the different
genders
Right now the plan is to
have one or two meetings
this semester to see how the
idea is received said Mark
Lewis coordinator of
Spiritual Development Next
fall these group meetings
may be integrated into the
Chapel schedule as often as
once a month
Small group chapels are
common on campus but this
type of Chapel has never
been done Steven Wages
assistant professor of family
and consumer sciences
decided it was time to make
that step
After a series of phone
calls and brainstorming ses-
sions with Lewis the deci-
sion was made and planning
for the separate men's and
women's Chapel began
' I don't really know how I
feel about it" said Mandy
Prescott junior psychology
major from Marshalltown
Iowa ' I d have to know what
will be talked about and what
the point is "
The point is to provide a
time for men and women to
meet separately and focus on
their different roles in this
"You can minister
in very different
ways to a gender-
specific group and
students can min-
ister to each
other."
Emily Jones
director of Gardner
residence hall
world as we live in the image
of Christ Lewis said
Lewis and Wages have
been working together to
plan the men's Chapel
Lewis has also been in
contact with Emily Jones
director of Gardner residence
hall In coordinating the
women's Chapel
You can minister in very
different ways to a gender-
specific group and students
can minister to each other'
said Jones who is also work-
ing with Spiritual Life and
students to coordinate a
women's ministry on campus
in the fall
This event is still in its
early stages of development
As plans are solidified
more information will be
released to students and oth-
ers interested in the event
Until then look forward to
an opportunity for positive
spiritual edification Lewis
said
As plans are made infor-
mation on how to volunteer
to be a part of these chapels
will be available through the
Campus Life Office located in
McKinzie residence hall
