George Moffett Asks Re-Election As
State Senator From 23rd District
SEN. GEORGE MOFFETT
Senator George Moffett of
Chillicothe has authorized the
Paducah Post to announce his
candidacy for re-election in this
district, which is composed of
Archer, Baylor, Cottle, Foard,
Hardeman, King, Knox, Throck-
morton, Wichita, Wilbarger, and
Young Counties. In announcing
his candidacy, Senator Moffett
said:
“I want to thank the people
of the 23rd Senatorial District
for the confidence they have
shown in me. I have sincerely
tried to justify that confidence
by advocating sound govern-
mental practices in this state.
If re-elected, I expect to con-
tinue to do so.
“This state’s rapidly growing
population demands a continu-
ation of useful and necessary
state services without unneces-
sary taxation. The next legisla-
ture must give thoughtful con-
sideration to the expanding
needs of our educational sys
terns, including both public
schools, and colleges. Texas
certainly should be higher than
31st among the states in its
support of public schools. Due
attention must also be given to
the growing needs of our state
hospital system, which now
houses over 25,000 inmates. The
needs of our older citizens, state
highways, health, and public
safety agencies must likewise
be properly recognized. Appar-
ently, the State Insurance Com-
mission, which is charged with
the duty of establishing proper
insurance rates, has made some
mistakes, which deserve early
correction.
■ “I believe that by hard work
and conscientious service the
next legislature can properly
meet these problems. Although
the answers will not be simple,
I pledge my very best. I will
not only appreciate your sup-
port in the coming Democratic
primary election, but also value
your counsel and advice in the
interest of better government in
Texas.”
Senator Moffett, a member of
a pioneer Northwest Texas fam-
ily, is the first native of the
23rd Senatorial District to rep-
resent it in the State Senate.
He is well experienced in Legis-
lative matters having served in
both houses of the Texas Legis-
lature. At the last regular ses-
sion, he authored the bill
new and expanded uses of cot-
which makes Midwestern Uni- the best solution to the farm
/ersity at Wichita Falls a state surplus problem. He was re-
university. cently selected by the Texas-
Senator Moffett has long es Farm Bureau as the “Man of
poured scientific research for the Year” for outstanding serv-
t°n and other farm products as ice to agriculture.
