For a 1 ii time prior to the begin

been believed that fresh air was the

at a high altitude with a minimum
of humidity a cure could most read-

that they must baptize their family of

SCRAPS
You know this filling up of space
Is really getting quite serious How
ever one thing of particular Interest
has been called to our attention this
week It seems that one of our dis
tlnguished seniors who has been in
Howard Payne for four years the
other day Inquired as to how many
saxaphones there are in the Volun
teer band We have been unable to
determine whether or not she was
planning to play a saxaphone In the
band or was just asking for infor

The show down has come at last
everyone must attend chapel so the
faculty has Informed us Somehow
or other they seem to think it neces
sary for our well-being we cannot
understand wny Even our good
natured Mr Havins called all of we
seniors together and good naturedly
warned us that he was going to start
checking up So it seems that theie s
no way out of it and there will prob
ably be pretty good attendance at
chapel from now on
Are you playing ping pong 7 If
you arent you are hopelessly be
hind the times and you must get a
set at once and start It Is quite the
thing on the campus or rather in the
dormitories at present The contests
are becoming quite interesting in both
the Barn and the Hall Up to date
we have not quite gotten on to what
is so intrancing in it but this may be
due to the fact that we have been
unable to land a ball on the table as
yet Anyway we fully intend to play
it for everyone must be up to date
and we have no desire to be old fogey
That was quite a good talk that
Coach Cheaney made the other morn
ing in chapel And all of it was
true too We heartily agree with
him that the students should co oper
ate with the basketball team as they
do with the football team Then we
too would like to see some of the
preachers come out for football It
would be a real joy to see some ot
these tall husky six footers make a
flying tackle Playing football would
give them a broader view of life to
say the least

CRAIG HOME
FOR MEAL
An unknown guest entertained him-
self lavishly in the home of Mr and
Mrs J O Craig 2206 N 21st street
yesterday while the family was away
Mr and Mrs Craig left the house
at 8 00 In the morning and went to
their work in the city They did not
return home until after 8 00 p in
last evening When they came into
the house they discovered that the
hospitable atmosphere of their home
had been introd upon by some person
This guest had forcibly let himself
In by breaking the latch on the back
screen doors He had proceeded to in-
vestigate his temporary domain His
tracks were plainly visible on the
newly waxed floors
He prepared a meal or two lamb
chops two fried eggs a pint of cream
coffee butter preserves and buns
After dining sufficiently this self-
imposed house guest left his dirty
dishes and wondered to the bathroom
where he refreshed himself with a
bath
Finding Mr Craig s wardrobe to his
taste he dressed himself in a new $50
suit a new shirt shoes socks and
hat He left his old ragged clothes
there In the room Being unable to
wear more than one suit but not be-
ing satisfied with taking only one he
found a Gladstone bag filled it with
clothes Mr Craig estimated that six
shirts twenty five ties twelve pairs
of socks one suit and one pair of
shoes were packed in the case
Mr Unknown went to the living
loom and selecting a piece of fiction
to suit his taste seated himself on
the sofa and proceeded to consume
the remainder of a box of chocolates
left on the table
Neighbors when called upon could
give no information as to this per-
sons identity The police are endea-
voring to find this house-breaker and
make him a guest of the county jail
