Claire Fahy says:
"Two brace wires on my plane in the center section snapped while
I was circling the Calexico port..., the fact that I was over the field
surely saved my life. I am convinced the wires had been tampered with.
They were snapped as squarely as if they had been cut by pliers. These
wires are formed of a number of wires twisted together, but there was no sign
of fraying. The ends of the center section wires were blackened, too.
I brought the wires back with me, and factory employees say they
never have seen a natural break similar to them. They have been
submitted to chemists to determine whether acid had been used."

"Bobbie Trout, Los Angeles girl flier, was forced down near
Algodones and cracked up in landing. She said her motor had flooded
and with a few coughs ceased functioning.
Investigation by the mechanics revealed that an altitude adjustment
on the engine had been twisted so that Miss Trout was unable to operate '
it from the cockpit. The mechanics said that it appeared as though the
connection had been twisted by design.
The boyish woman aeronaut declared the circumstances appeared queer."

altitude adjustment, declared last night that the empty gas tank told a
very suspicious story. The night before, the 241 gallon tank was filled to
capacity, sufficient for three flying hours. She was forced to land after
one hour and 25 minutes. Her records show a full a full tank at San Berdo.
She declares without reservation that she thinks her tank was drained."
