Mrs. Harris says the new
position will give her "a
closer tie with the
students" and better
awareness of student life at
HP.
One of the first duties
Mrs. Harris performed in
her new position was to
meet with all new resident
assistants in a one-day
workshop. The R.A.'s were
given their job descriptions
and told what was expected
from them in their roles as
liasons between dorm
residents and the Office of
Student Life.
Mrs. Harris is also now
the sponsor of the Student
Union Board. "We had a
bang-up start to this
semester's SUB activities
with Jeremiah People's
performance" she com-
mented. She noted the up-
coming SUB concert with
Wayne Watson Feb. 24.
In her role as director of
student life Mrs. Harris
will be in charge of Spring
Fling which is set for
March 18. The HP swimm-
ing pool will be open begin-
ning that day she said and
ARA will cater a party at
the pool as a part of Spring
Fling. The Christian music
group "Faithworks" will
perform that evening.
Mrs. Harris as director
of placement also an-
nounced that 460 letters
have been sent out to local
businesses about employ-
ing HP students. She
reported that the response
from them has been good.
The Placement Office is
scheduling interviews daily
in the Packer Administra-
tion Building for com-
panies to talk with HP
students regarding
employment after gradua-
tion she said.

Gressett named BSU Director

Randy Gressett has been
named interim director of
the Baptist Student Union
at Howard Payne moving
from his previous position
as director of student life
announced Dr. Lanny Hall
HP executive vice presi-
dent. Gressett is replacing
former BSU director Paul
Sullivan who resigned in

tion as associate pastor of
Memorial Drive Baptist
Church in Houston.

Children needed for 'The Sound of Music'
Howard Payne Universi-

musical "The Sound of
Music" which will be
presented March 20 21 and
22. Because of the nature of
the show children are
needed for this production
according to Neil St. Clair

drama.
"I'd really like to en-
courage the HP faculty and
staff who have children to
let them audition.. .it is
BSU to hold annual leadership meeting
The Texas Baptist Stu-
dent Union will be holding
its annual Leadership
Training Conference Feb.
6-8 at Baylor University in
Waco.
The conference is to
feature noted speakers
music groups from BSU's
across the state and
seminars that address dif-
ferent areas of BSU
ministries.

background includes hav-
ing directed youth work at
First Baptist Church
Snyder and Calvary Bap-
tist Church Abilene. While
really good experience for

Auditions for the
children's roles will be held
Monday Feb. 2 at 6:30
p.m. in Coggin Theatre.
Children's parts
available include four
girls ages five seven nine
and 13 and two boys ages
11 and 14. Children who are
auditioning should prepare
one song-not necessarily
from "The Sound of
Music"--and also be
prepared to read from the

An estimated 2000 col-
lege students from across
the state will gather to hear
speakers including
Buckner Fanning Stan
Allcorn and Charles Baker.

at McMaster's Private
School in Fort Worth.
"I'm very encouraged by
the spirit and enthusiasm
expressed by students for
BSU activities and
ministries" Gressett said.
He said BSU at Howard
Payne is a very sound pro-
gram and he attributes this
to the work of Sullivan and
the students that have been
involved in the BSU.

A list of HP student cast
members was posted in the
foyer of Mims Auditorium
Wednesday. As some had
not yet agreed to accept
their assigned roles as of
press time the Yellow
Jacket will postpone
publishing that
information.

There is no cost for the
conference itself and HP's
BSU is coordinating
transportation and lodging
according to Gressett.
Students should plan to
spend $30 for transporta-
tion and lodging and extra
money for meals for the
three-day event. "Students
with friends in Waco may
stay with them to avoid the
expense of a motel"
Gressett added.

Job Interviews
Ann Harris director of placement reports that HP's
Placement Office is scheduling interviews daily in the
Packer Administration Building for companies to talk
with HP students regarding employment after gradua-
tion. Call extension 278 for further information.
SUB Movie
The SUB movie this weekend is Walt Disney's
animated "The Great Mouse Detective." It is schedul-
ed for tomorrow at 9 p.m. in Mims Auditorium.
Graduation Fees
Graduating Seniors are reminded that the deadline
for paying the $30 required diploma order fee is Mon-
day. The fee pays for the graduates' caps gowns and
diplomas. Payment should be made in the Registrar's
Office located in Packer Administration Building.
Chapel Convocation
Rev. Sam Randolph will be the Chapel speaker for
Tuesday. Class meetings will be held Thursday during
Convocation.
AH -Greek Rush
All Greek Rush will be held Tuesday at 8 p.m. in
the cafeteria. Students who are interested in possible
membership in an organization are encouraged to
attend.
Community Concert
The Aurora Trio composed of a bassoonist a flautist
and a harpist will perform tonight at 8 in Mims
Auditorium as a part of the Brownwood Community
Concert Assoication's concert season. HP students will
be admitted free upon presentation of their HP I.D.'s.
Senior Recital
Senior music major Doris Jaye Modisette will pre-
sent her Senior Recital tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. in Mims
Auditorium.
