sity advanced acting class
under the direction of Neil
St. Clair will present a pro-
gram of scenes from
modem American plays
tomorrow at 7 p.m. and
Sunday Dec. 6 at 2:30 p.m.
Both performances will
be held in Coggin Theater
and there is no admission
charge.
The program will consist

McFarland Fund specifies
that scholarship grants be
awarded to young men and
women of good character

religion. "Young men and
women" may be defined as
high school senior or col-
lege students of age up to
30. A recipient must be a
citizen of the United States

dent of either Tarrant or
Parker County for at least
one year. Establishment of
residence in the county for
the purpose of attending

cient to complete the pro-
posed course of study or

musical program "Scenes
from Oklahoma" on Mon-
day November 23 to enter-
tain participants of the
Camp Bowie Senior
Citizens Center.

Sheehy appointed athletic
Jerry V. Millsapps
athletic director for men's
sports and head football
coach at Howard Payne
University for the past two
years has resigned the
positions.
The resignation was an-
nounced by Dr. Don
Newbury HPU president.
John Sheehy head
basketball coach at HPU
has been named athletic
director of men's sports ef-
fective immediately.
"Coach Millsapps served
HPU during a very difficult
era in athletics" Newbury
said "During his first
year he accepted the vir-
tually impossible assign-
ment of competing in the
Lone Star Conference and
upon withdrawal from the
LSC and alignment with
the Texas Intercollegiate
Athletic Association he
took the Yellow Jackets
forward to a 5-5 record-
their best in twelve years."
He indicated that
Millsapps provided strong
leadership during this tran-
sitional year into the TIAA
and brought HPU an ex-
citing and competitive foot-
ball team which has a
bright future in upcoming
years.
"I have long appreciated
Coach Millsapps' dedica-
tion to coaching and loyalty
to HPU" Newbury added
"And I wish him the very
best in all future
endeavors."
Sheehy associated with
HPU for the past five years
and head men's basketball
coach for Ue past three
seasons is a Missouri
native and a graduate of
Southwest Baptist Univer-
sity in Bolivar. Mo. He also
holds the master of arts
degree from the University
of Northern Colorado in
Greeley Co.
"Coach Sheehy is a
respected and capable
coach and is in a position to
serve equally well as
athletic director for men's
sports" Newbury
observed.

1956 and M.Ed. 1967) was a

John Sheehy
New Athletic Director
Texas Conference and Lit-
tle Ail-American honors as
one of the university's all-
time premiere quarter-
backs. He engineered the
1954 Yellow Jackets to 9-1
record and was a three-
year HPU letterman.
After a two-year stint in
the army he coached at
Lee Junior High School in
San Angelo (1958-1960) and
as varsity assistant at
Lampasas High
School(1960-1963) before
returning to HPU as offen-
sive coordinator
(1964-1967). He then began

a 12-year stint at Pecos
High School including 10
years as head coach. He
was head football coach at
Odessa High School from
1979-1985 before coming to
Howard Payne.
Millsapps served three
years as a member of the
Board of Directors of the
Texas High School
Coaches' Association and
was nominated for presi-
dent of that organization.
He also was nominated
four times to coach the all-
star game.
Millsapps is married to
the former Margie Lee Cof-
fee of Bangs; they have one
married daughter Leslie
Graham.
In 1963 Sheehy played on
the Bernie Mo. High
School team which was
runner-up in the state tour-
nament. He lettered four
years at Southwest Baptist
University and he was
team captain during his
senior year.
Before coming to HPU in
1982 Sheehy coached eight
years in junior colleges. He
coached two years at
Truett McConnel College in
Cleveland Ga. where he
took a program that had
won only three games in
197940 to ten wins in 1980-81
and 15 wins in 1981-82. He
spent six years at Southern
Baptist College in Walnut
Ridge Ark. and was nam-
ed Arkansas Junior College
Coach of the Year in
197940.
During the 198546 season
(HPU's next-to-last in the
LSC) Sheehy guided HPU
to a tie for second place in
the rugged NCAA league.
Sheehy's wife Linda is a
teacher at Brownwood's
East Elementary School.
They have two children
Tracy 16 and Clark 12.
A search will begin im-
mediately for a new head
football coach at HPU. Ap-
plications are being receiv-
ed through December 4th
in the Athletic Director's
