Ron Marcoux, interim director of the Montana Department of Fish,
Wildlife and Parks, said up to 20 percent of the Northern Yellowstone elk
herd could succumb to the elements this year because of several factors,
including overpopulation and lack of public wintering range outside
Yellowstone National Park

TYPE II AREAS STOCKED WITH
962 WHITE-TAILED DEER
AUSTIN -- The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department has trapped 962 white-
tailed deer and released them on 10 Type II public hunting areas in East
Texas
Horace Gore, white-tailed deer program leader, said the new Unit 129 in
the Type II system got 247 deer He said the 29,000-acre unit has deer
populations that are below the habitat's carrying capacity, partly due to
heavy hunting pressure in the past The unit is forest products land
located in southern Jasper County
Gore said the other nine Type II units each received 50 to 100 deer
The animals were trapped from state parks, industrial parks and private
ranches where deer are overpopulated, Gore said About 750 of the animals
were trapped in South Texas, with the remainder coming from Central Texas
