Ex-Denver cop Janeway is
happily selling rare and used
books when a former police
colleague, Clydell Slater, arrives
with an offer Janeway never cared
for Slater and doesn’t like him a
bit better now, but Slater’s
proposal is intriguing..
Slater’s detective agency wants
Janeway to go to Seattle to pick up
a young woman fugitive and
deliver her to her bail bondsman
and the district court at Taos She
is wanted for burglary and assault.
Bom dirt poor, Jennings took all
the grit Of his hometown of
Littlefield into his soul and sound
He never considered anything else
but playing music.
Cut in the mode of Hank
Williams and Carl Smith, he broke
the closed society of Nashville
sessions in the sixties. Tutored by
Porter Wagoner and Ernest Tubb,
he shared living quarters with
Johnny Cash, took songwriting
tips from Roger Miller, and
encouragement (often unsolicited)
from Willie Nelson, and hung out
after hours with Kris Kristofferson
She may also have stolen a copy of George Jones,
the 1969 Grayson Press “Raven” T°day two hme Grammy winner
when she ransacked a Taos house and sixteen time chart topper,

In a work shimmering with
wisdom and joy, Maria Harris in
Jubilee Time, brings £jpedd gift
to every woman facing who she is
now and what she may become in
the years, ahead Starting with the
biblical teaching that the fiftieth
year marks a time for celebration
and reflection as well as the
embarkation point of a new
journey, Harris helps women enter
the second half of life with a
refreshed spirituality, an increased
freedom, and a richer sense of
themselves.
To create this empowering
guide, Hams drew on her own
experience; on the writings of
such women as May Sarton,
Elizabeth Janeway, Dons
Brumbach, and Florida Scott-
Max well; and on the moving
responses of more than 140
diverse women to her
questionnaire on growing older
While the specific revelation of
Jubilee Time are unique to each
woman, all recognize the
astonishing power of their mature
minds and spirits.
Harris’s book can help the
reader change society’s
understanding of the phrase “older
woman” from something to be
feared to something to be
cherished, channel energy and
experience into the repair of a
broken world; and discover the
freedoms of growing older-
including the freedom to say what
you really believe.
