by Gina Versyp
Dr. Jeffery Kinlaw
the new assistant profes-
sor of Philosophy comes
to McMurry from Wake
Forest University in Winston-Salem
North Caro-
lina where he previously
taught for a number of
years. This move was
quite a change for Dr.
Kinlaw who has never
lived away from the east
coast prior to moving
here. He says he enjoys
the town of Abilene thus
far especially the sense of
community he feels here
at McMurry.
Dr. Kinlaw re-
ceived his Ph.D. at the
University of Virginia. His
field of expertise is Ger-

Students express opinions
about Financial Aid
by Shannon Serafine
The War Whoop
recently conducted a sur-
vey among 17 McMurry
students regarding their
experiences with Financial
Aid. The survey consisted
of five simple questions.
The first asked if any of
the students ever received
financial aid from
McMurry or elsewhere.
All said yes. The second
question asked if any of
them felt that there was a
problem with McMurry's
Financial Aid department:
15 yes 2 no. The third
question asked if they felt
that the problem was with
the staff or the overall
process of financial aid: 6
staff 9 overall or both.
The fourth question asked
J
if any of them felt that
McMurry was taking the
steps necessary to im-
prove: 6 yes 1 1 no. The
last question asked if the
students believed the
main reason why students
drop out of McMurry or
don't attend in the first
place is that the financial
aid process is too difficult
andor the department
fails to provide sufficient
aid: 10 yes 7 no. Some of
the students participating
in the survey elected to
comment on the question
of whether or not the
problem was with the staff
or the overall process.
One student said "The
staff is not friendly and

Train
performs at
McMurry
by Gina Versyp
On Sunday No-
vember 14th at 8:00 p.m.
in the Radford audito-
rium Abilene was hon-
ored with the presence of
two very talented bands.
Old Pike a band out of
Bloomington Indiana
went on first warming up
the crowd for the head-
liner Train. Old Pike was
very entertaining encour-
aging the crowd to "Get
UP dance around!" The
music dominated by gui-
tar livened the crowd for
the feature group and by
the time Train came
onstage the crowd was on
its feet dancing around
and ready to be enter-
tained. Train's improvisa-
tional eclectic sound re-
ally had the crowd going.
The group played mainly
their own songs but also
threw in Led Zeppelin's
"Ramble On" and some
other classic rock favor-
ites. They ended the con-
cert with their hit single
"Meet Virginia" which the
crowd yelled and sang
along to. After trying to
end the set after their
single the crowd was so
appreciative that the
group came back onstage
and played two more
songs.
