Post Office To
Remain Open On
Saturday ’til 6 PM
The local Post Office will re-
main open on Saturday after-
noon until 6:00 o'clock starting
next Saturday, November 22nd.,
and continue on that schedule
until after the Holiday season,
or through December 27th., It
was announced this week by
Lucile Fairman, Postmaster.
This change In hours has been
effected for the convenience of
local patrons in taking care of
holidiy mall, especially parcel
post.
Christmas mail showed a
marked upward trend dprlng
the past two weeks according
to postal employees of the local
office, which was due primarily
to overseas mailing of packages.
October 15th through November
15th was the regular period for
mailing parcel post addressed
fer delivery overseas.
Chrictmas packages for over-
seas delivery may be mailed
until November 26th, however
they must now be mailed by
Air Mall If they are to reach
their destination in time for
delivery before Christmas.

because It usually rains when

Funeral Services
Held Thursday
Funeral services were held for
Newel A Duey, age 78, at the
First Baptist Church of San
Saba last Thursday with Rev.
R. C. Tennison, Pastor, officiat-
ing and being assisted by Rev.
Sam D. Taylor and Dr. J. F. |
Hardle, Presbyterian Minister.
Mr. Duey passed away at I
the San Saba Memorial Hospital
last Wednesday, November 12,
alter having suffered a heart [
ailment for several years. He
was born at Beau Kiss, Texas, 11
on November 21, 1874. On Sep-
tember 20, 1905, he was married ]
to Miss Myrtle Howard of San |
Saba County. They had lived in I
San Saba and Mills Counties j
for many years, and resided in
the Big Valley Community f >r
several yetis.
Survivors include his wife;
one daughter, Mrs. Paul Rob-
erds -of San Saba,; two sons,
Howard and Clarence, and two
grandchildren, James and Marie
Duey, all of Llano: anJ one

Wesleyan Service
Guild Meeting
Members of the Wesleyan
Service Guild of the First Meth-
odist Church met at the Metho-
dist parsonage Monday evening,
November 3, at 7:00 o'clock, for
a covered dish supper and pro-
gram. Those attending were
Mrs. Talbot Letbetter, Mrs. Rob-
ert Steen, Mrs. W. C. Barnett,
Mrs. V. A. Huson, Mrs. Julian
Evans, the hostess, Mrs. Ed H.
Lcvelace and Miss Louise Irvine.
Mrs. Steen brought an out-
standing program to the group
on home missions In the Church,
and the need for all of us to
work for others. Miss Carolyn
Graves sang "Others."
The meeting next month will
be held In the home of Mrs.
Robert Steen and Mrs. Hudson
and Louise Irvine will have the
program.
Mrs. Billy Ray Harper, the
former Nell Carman Wilkins,
left Monday for Norfolk, Vir-
ginia, where she wrU join her
husband, who is a Radioman in
the Navy. Mr. Harper expects
to be stationecf'at Norfolk for
the time being, and Mrs. Harper
will remain there with him.
Pep Squad News
Members of the Ooldthwalte
High School Pep Squad are
busily selling cookies and candy
at .school this week and will also
have for sale ribbons and bal-
loons at the football game here
Friday night to rats; money for
the Annual Football Banquet.
The banquet has been scheduled
for Thursday night, December
18, it has been announced by
Miss Marjorie Whitt, Pep Squad
President.
W E. Miner was earned to
Scott and White Hospital at
Temple on Monday night of this
week.
Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Baird and
baby and Mrs Clark Miller vis-
ited Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Fills and
Peggy of Comanche on Monday
