grand champion fat barrow at
the auction sale following the
stock show here Saturday after-
noon.
Mills County State Bank
bought the reserve champion
fat barrow for 31 cents per
pound.
Brownwood Cattle Auction
was the heavy buyer in the sale
of both show hogs and lambs
that were offered for sale, by
boys and girls who exhibited
them.
The firm also paid $26 for a
single lamb, the hlgheat price

For Cookie Sales
The Heart Of Texas Girl
Scout Council will conduct a
training course for all troop
cookie chairmen on next Wed-
nesday, January 24, at the Qlsl
Scout House In Ooldthwalte,
from 8 to H£Q a. m.
Specialized training will be
given to the Community Cookie
Chairmen and her assistant
from 12:00 noon to 1:30 p. m
The chairman end her assist-
ant are asked to attend the
troop cookie chairman training
as well as the specialised train-
ing to order to become ac-
quainted with all of the aspect*
of the sale.
The cookie sale la held each
year as • troop fund raising
project and aa a means to pro-
vide better camping facilities
for all girls in the counSII .

To Training Course
For Electricians
THURMAN L. SCHIVNER
Lackland AIM, Texas — Air-
man Basic Thurtnan L. Scriv-
ner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles
N scrivner of Route 2, Ooldth-
walte, Is being assigned to the
United States Air Force techni-
cal training course for electri-
cians at Chanute AFB, Illinois
Airman Scrivner, who has
completed his basic military
training at Lackland AFB, Tex-
as, waa selected for the advan-
ced course on the beats of hla
paid. All lambs were sold by the
head.
David Watters paid the se--
ond highest price when he bid
in a lamb for $25.
Other lambs sold for $12 to
$20 each.

from Ooldthwalte. Jerry is a
senior in high school and is the
son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman
Duren.
Duren exhibited his 1,020
pound Hereford to first place in
the heavy weight class before
he was judged grand champion
of the show. The steer waa bred
by W. V. Horton. Hereford
breeder of Mills County and waa
fed under the supervision of
George Reese, Mills County Ag-
ent.
The reserve champion steer
was shown by Brady Wayne
Duren. 4-H club member from
Mullin. He is the son of Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph.Duren.
His reserve champion steer,
an Angus weighing 1,000
pounds, was bred by H. H.
Oroff, Cedar Rapids, Iowa This
steer took second place to the
heavy weight class before being
Judged reserve champion.
Brady Wayne took first place
for the top three steers In a
group. This group included a
Hereford and two Angus.

many years, not In numbers but
to the quality of animals shown,
according to officials of Mills
County Livestock Raisers' Asso-
ciation. which sponsors the
show.
The steers were judged by
Thurman Walker, Lampasas,
Texas.

Norman Duren Is In Chicago
attending a meeting of dealers
for International Harveater
Company. He represents Duren
Equipment Company of Ooldth-
walte
He left Dallas Wednesday by
plane with other dealers from
the Southwest for the session
They will return Saturday.

Floyd Spradley Jr., attended
furniture market to Dallas the
first part of this week. He left
for market Sunday and return-
ed home Wednesday evening.

Last Friday night Ooldth-
walte basketball boys and girls
opened conference play at Ma-
son. The girls won 31-30 while
the boys lost their game by four
points. 56-52.
Tuesday night OHS team*
played host to Copperas Cove
on the local courts with both
chalking up a victory. The glrla
won 37-26 and the bore 47-44, _
This Friday night the varsity
teams will travel . to Marble
Falls
