The July 4 celebration took
place In several homes. Among
them were the home of Mr.
and Mrs. W.T. Onlye in Vado,
N.M.; Mr. and Mrs. Alfred
Allen, Mr. and Mrs. Edward
Jones, Horizon City; Sgt. and
Mrs. Daniel Bradley where a
family reunion was held.
The visitors chapel AME
church celebrated its 88th an-
niversary witn «ev. Aaams of
Waco as guest speaker. Rev.
Adams Is also the bishop.
The Mount Zion Baptist
church is in a week revival with
Rev. J. Curry of Midland as
the evangelist.
Debutante Sharon Mitchell
sponsored a special musical
at Shiloh Baptist Sunday fea-
turing guest choirs.
Mr. and Mrs. Warn McVea
were house guests of Rev. and
Mrs. Howard Humphrey.
Funeral services were held
at Shiloh Baptist church for
Mr. and Mrs. M.H. White Fri-
day. Rev. Howard Humphrey
gave the eulogy. Rev. Onnie I.
Kirk and Rev. James Procking-
ton assisted in the services.

Mrs. L.V. Stubblefield and
George N. Gregory of Hemp-
stead were at the bedside of
their brother, Rev. H.A. Greg-
ory during his hospitalization.

A big July 4 celebration was
held at the home of Mr. and
Mrs. E.H. Porter, 1216 St. An-
drews, attended by the Ellison,
Lotts, Walkers, Ward and But-
ler families of San Antonio,
and the Perkins, Porter and
Kingston families from Hous-
ton.
Also attending were the Nor-
mans of Odessa, the Rhodes
and Scotts from Weimar, the
Simsons from Crockett and the
Whites, Fords and Porters
from Gonzales.
Mrs. Tommie Johnson, Mrs.
Mary Smith, Mrs. EllaJohnson
and Mrs. Lucille Spears attend-
ed the wedding of their niece,
Miss Verma Lee, and Earnest
Leon Carter Jr. at Houston's
Trinity United Methodist

Rev. A.J. Maxwell officiated
at Mount Olive Baptist church
Sunday. Men’s day was observ-
ed that afternoon with Rev. H.
Paige of San Antonio as the
guest speaker. He was joined
by his choir who performed
the music.
Freddie Hodges was master
of ceremonies and dinner was
served in the cafeteria.

Due to a recent illness of
Mrs. L.M. Clark, Miss Eugenia
Shelton will conduct Galilee
Sunday school for the next
month. The school was well
attended with all officers pres-
ent. Mrs. Mable Nunn of Cor-
pus Chrlsti gave the desk re-
view. Sunday was also regular
pastoral day with the pastor,
Rev, Swisher In charge. The
shut-ins are doing fine.
Among those ill two weeks
ago were Mesdames Emma
Williams, E. Allen, Ida Doug-
las, Amle Freelon, Thelma
Hayes, L.M. Clark and Mattie
Reed.
Mr. and Mrs. A.T. Pleasant
attended the birthday dinner
of their sister and brother, Mr.
and Mrs. Ezra Perkins, in Bee-
ville. On their return, Mrs.
Pleasant and Miss Chappel re-
ceived a long distance call from
their brother wishing her a
happy birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Houston
of San Antonio and son visited

of San Antonio visited his fath-
er, Berlle Brown. Mrs L.E.
Clay and daughter of Port La-
vaca were the week end guests
of Mrs. G. Rogers and Mrs.
Clark. Mrs. Ethel Wright re-
turned home from San Antonio
where she spent the week with
her aunt who is ill. Mrs. Wright
is the mother of M.D. Wright

Freddie L. Williams drove to
Edgar for the 104th anniversary
of Mt. Zion Baptist church.
Williams and Miss E. Shelton
have completed their first sem-
ester of Adult Basic education.

Mrs. J.W. Swisher and Mrs.
Watts. Mr. and Mrs. Isaiah
Swisher of Austin spent Sun-
day with their parents, Rev.
and Mrs. Swisher, and sister
and sister-in-law, Mrs. Ar-

Mrs. Allen brought back the
SS and BTU trophy which she
won for the second straight

Mrs. Posey carried her Ju-
bilee choir to San Antonio Sat-
urday.
Mrs. Bennie Far and chil-
dren spent the week in Luling
with her sister.
Miss Clovis Bonner joined
Harold Hardee in holy wedlock
after recent services in
Shreveport, La. Hardee is tne
son of Mr. and Mrs. James
Hardee and a student at Texas
Southern university. The new
Mrs. Hardee is a secretary at
TSU. The couple will reside in
Houston.
Mrs. Marilyn Morrow spent
July 4 with her parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Hardee. She lives in
North Carolina. Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Sykes of Santa Monica,
Calif., spent the week end with
his uncle and aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Hardee.

A benefit dinner was spon-
sored July 4 by the Mount
Zion Baptist association as part
of their third amiual Independ-
ence day celebration on the
encampment grounds.
Rev. Robert Armstrong of
Gonzales was the noon speak-
er. Rev. O.L. Hegmon of An-
tioch Baptist in Fort Worth
was guest speaker for the af-
ternoon services.
The Mount Zion Baptist
church in Edgar observed its
104th anniversary July 1. Rev.
ueorge fc. r.awaras, modera-
tor of the Mt. Zion Baptist was
guest speaker. He was accom-
panied by the congregations
from both Schulenburg and Hal-
lettsville.
Rev. A.S. Green is pastor.
Final rites for Oliver Prince
Jr. were held Saturday at New
Hope Baptist church, Rev. A.
B. Bedford officiating.
Burial was in the Lockhart
cemetery.
Survivors include two sons,
Dudley and Leonard, of Los
Angeles, Calif.; father, Oliver
Prince Sr.; mother, Mrs. Mary
Jane Prince, Cuero; sister,
Mrs. Willie Mae Thompson,
San Antonio, and two brothers,
Cornelius of San Antonio and
Alex of Berkeley, Calif.

their pastor and wife, Rev.
H.S. Smith, with apantry show-
er on his birthday Saturday
