Mrs. T. F. Whiteley, Mrs. W.
T. Vickers and Mrs. Joe Price
of Victoria spent Monday of
last week in Alice visiting Mr.
and Mrs. Norman Hoffman.
Mrs. Price had come down to
visit her mother and aunt and
the three made visits to other
members of the family during
her visit here.
Mrs. J. B. Whatley was
hostess for an informal
gathering of her sons and their
families Sunday afternoon as a
courtesy to her husband and
their sons on Father’s Day. Ice
cream and cake were served to
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Whatley
and children, Mr. and Mrs.
Richard Whatley and baby,
and Mr. and Mrs. J. B.
Whatley.
Mrs. Burt McCorkle and
children visited her sister,
Mrs. Susan Ross, in Corpus
Christi. Mrs. McCorkle and
children are here from
California for a visit with
relatives in this area.
Miss Karen White, who is
touring the Scandinavian
countries, called her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. C. E. White from
Bangor, Mo. Thursday night
before leaving for the overseas
flight and told them she had
met friends from Kingsville, a
professor at A&I University
and his wife, whom she did not
know was on the tour flight
until they had met in Bangor.
About 200 are on the travel
tour.
Mrs, John Edwards and
daughter Ginger enjoyed a
swim with Mrs. J. E. Whitten
in the El Rey pool Monday
afternoon.
Lela Ann West spent from
Friday until Tuesday in
Papalote visiting relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Robert-
son visited their daughter,
Mrs. Julius Petrus, in Skid-
more Saturday.
Mrs. T. C. Morton Jr. and
children, Cal and Melody,
spent from Friday until Sunday
visiting Mrs. Susie Romike in
Sinton and Mrs. C. D. Eads Jr.
in Odem.
Mr. and Mrs. Sandy Croft
and family of Round Mountain
arrived Monday afternoon for
a visit here with her grand-
mother, Mrs. T. F. Whiteley.
Mr. and Mrs. H. B. Sipes had
their daughters and their
families, Mr. and Mrs. Robert
Barlow of Sodville and Mr. and
Mrs. Lester Balusek and
children of Beeville, in for a
family dinner Sunday in ob-
servance of Father’s Day.
Debbie and Donny Lange of
Yuma, Ariz., arrived Wed-
nesday to spend a week with
their uncle and aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. L. W. Lange in Edroy.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hill and
children of Mercedes spent the
weekend here with Mr. and
Mrs. Wallace Lilly.
Mrs. H. M. Montgomery has
returned from a visit with her
brother, D. Tovar and family,
in San Angelo.
Mrs. W. B. Cleveland ac-
companied Mr. and Mrs. Joe
Green of Refugio to Kingsville
Sunday, where they spent the
day with their respective son
and daughter, Mr. and Mrs.

For State 4-H Contest

Mrs. Charles Montgomery
took her daughter and grand-
son, Mrs. Roy Wasson and Roy
Jr., to their home in Freeport
Saturday and was an overnight
guest in the Wasson home.
Mrs. Wasson and son had spent
10 days here with relatives.
Mr. and Mrs. Tomas Davis
Jr. and children, Kim and Sue,
have returned from a week-
long visit with her mother,
Mrs. Clyde Looper in Aquilla,
and her sister, Mrs. Dick
Loewe in Dallas.
Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Chant of
LaMarque were among the out-
of-town relatives here to attend
the funeral of her uncle, B. T.
Draper, Tuesday of last week.
Larry Davis of Austin is
here for a three-week visit with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Thomas Davis Jr.
H. P. Davis, who was
recently hospitalized, is
reported to be feeling better at
this time. He had been quite ill
from a diabetic condition and
was a patient at Memorial
Hospital in Corpus Christi for
two weeks.
Mrs. Bertha McClurg of
Sinton spent the weekend here
with her brother and wife, Mr.
and Mrs. Pete Ince.
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Brown and
children spent the weekend
here with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. H. H. Brown. They were
joined here Sunday by her
brother Howard Brown and
family of Corpus Christi.
Mr. and Mrs. L. W. Lange
and their grandchildren,
Denise and Larry Hoelscher of
yiolet, were among the 194
persons attending the Lange
family reunion held in Klenif
Park, Fredricksburg last
weekend. The annual reunion
became tradition in the family
more than 40 years ago.
Among those from Odem
who attended the celebration of
the second birthday of Jennifer
Underbrink in Kingsville
Wedenesday were Mr. and
Mrs. J. E. Wallace, Mrs. Lonie
Lane and Misses Rhonda and
Melissa Wallace. Jennifer is
the daughter of Mr. and Mrs.
Jim Underbrink.
Mrs. D. R. Smith and son
Larry were in Houston one day
last week to help her son-in-
law, Marshall Roach, get the
household effects of Mr. and
Mrs. Roach packed for ship-
ment to the Virgin Islands.
Mrs. Roach and Todd had
arrived at the Islands to spend
the summer just a few days
before her husband received
notification that his job had
become of permanent status.
He made the trip to Houston to
attend to the business matters
and Mrs. Roach and Todd
remained at the Islands.
Mrs. 0. W. Nolen and her
son, David Kent Nolen, John
David Nolen, and Jeffrey Nolen
spent the weekend in San
Marcos visiting relatives.
They visited Miss Crystal
Lea Nolen, Mr. and Mrs. K. E.
Munson and Mr. and Mrs.
Walter Burnett.
Miss Pat Voss of Midland has
written friends here that she is
on a travel tour in Europe. She
wrote from Amsterdam. She is
the daughter of D.r. and Mrs.
A. H. Voss of Odem.
COG Gets
Funds For
Law Plans
Coastal Bend Council of
Governments, Corpus Christi,
was one of 26 regional and
metropolitan area planning
councils awarded criminal
justice planning grants for
fiscal 1973 by Governor
Preston Smith.
Amount was $33,400.
The awards, totaling
$793,718, will come from the
Criminal Justice Council,
which oversees statewide law
enforcement planning and
administers funds from the U.
S Department of Justice for
crime control projects in
Texas.
The Coastal Bend COG grant
will be used in implementing
action projects outlined in
previous plans and in updating
the comprehensive five-year
criminal justice plan for the 13
counties of the Coastal Bend
State Planning Region.
Major activities to be sup-
ported by the award include
law enforcement training, a
regional law enforcement
information system and
technical assistance for
criminal justice agencies of the
area.
Coastal Bend COG furnishes
professional criminal justice
planning services to each local
governmental unit in the
region’s 13 counties and serves
as a regional clearinghouse for
projects.
These counties are Aransas,
Bee, Brooks, Duval, Jim Wells,
Karnes, Kenedy, Kleberg, Live
Oak, McMullen, Nueces,
Refugio and San Patricio.
The region’s cash con-
tribution to the criminal justice
planning effort for the coming
year will be $3,711.
Pattie Heath, member of the
San Patricio County 4-H Horse
Club, qualified to participate in
the State 4-H Horse Club
contest to be held in San An-
tonio July 19-22 when she and
her Appaloosa “Joker Jack’s
Don” rode their way to victory
in the District 12 4-H Horse
Club contest held in Kingsville
Tuesday of this week.
Pattie and “Joker Jack’s
Don” won on halter, pole-
bending and clover-leaf barrel
racing. Pattie was runner-up
girl in points and was one of the
Mr. and Mrs. Larry Bickham
and children and Mr. and Mrs.
Phil Peterson and daughter of
Portland attended a Father’s
Day dinner honoring A.C.
Bickham, with Mrs. Bickham
as hostess.

Relatives At
State Park
Mr. and Mrs. Carroll Janicke
and Heidi left here Friday and
went to Garner State Park,
where they visited with their
son and brother, Kris, who was
there with the UMYF group
from First United Methodist
Church of Odem.
From Garner Park Mr. and
Mrs. Janicke and daughter
went to Austin to visit their
older son, Kim, who is at-
tending summer classes at
University of Texas.
On the way home from
Austin the Janickes stopped in
San Marcos and visited with
his uncle and aunt, Mr. and
Mrs. Floyd Scull.
They returned home Sunday
afternoon.
Johnny Mayo spent the
weekend in San Antonio
visiting friends.
