Odem High School band receives superior rating at UIL Region 14 Marching Contest
Freshmen band members Crystal Garza and Erika Vela concen-
trate on their instruments as they play on the field of Sinton High
School. Although the band is not advancing to the next level of
competition, Odem received a superior rating. The. competition
was for Class 1A, 2A and 3A schools only.
This past Saturday twenty-
three high school bands compet-
ed at UIL Region 14 Marching
Contest hosted at Pirate
Stadium. Each band was judged
on their marching and musical
performance by a three judge
panel. Bands earned ratings
from 1 st-superior, 2nd-excel-
lence to a 3rd-good on their per-
formance. Odem performed a
program that was a selection of
excepts from “Fiddler on the
Roof.”
The results are a follows:

Although Odem, does not
move onto to further finals, they
still did a fine job.
Also, in competition on
October 2, 2004, the Spirit of
O.H.S. Marching Band competed
at the Calallen Marching Festival
in Galallen. The band earned
second place in the 2A classifica-
tion against stiff competition. In
addition, the Odem Drum Line
took first place in the percussion
competition, beating several fine
drum lines in both the 2A and 3A
classifications.
The Spirit of O.H. S. is under
the direction of senior Drum
Major Chelsea Hospodar and
Band Director Vincent Smith.
Assistant Band Director is
Jennifer Parra. Color Guard
instructor is Melissa Maldanado,
and Percussion Instructor is
Lizzy Robledo.
The Band Booster Club meets
the first Tuesday of every month
at 7 p.m. Booster Club President
is Richard Ortiz.
