SCHOOL PUND Of TEXAS
Estimated that Increased Scholastic Pop-
ulation Will Reduce Per Capita.
Austin July in.—On Aug. 1 the
îtate Hoard of Education will appor-
ion the available school fund for the
■nailing scholastic session and it can
lardly be expected to be as targe as
t was a year ago when $5.25 per
■apitn was allowed. The scholastic
population will have increased over
100.000 it is estimated because of
the change in lhe law of enumera-
tion By the change the law permits
ihv enumeration of < hildren 7 years
lot age whereftR the minimum age
recorded has been 8 years. TMs
I will increase the scholastic popula-
tion at least 100000 and will make
la decrease in the per capita appor-
tionment as long division must be
employed. Last year the children
enumerated were between the ages
of >> and 17 years while this year it
was those between 7 and 17 years.
There were 798G75 children be-
tween s and 17 years of age a year
ago and on apportionment cf $5.25
the total was $4193043. With the
increase in the ages and the natural
increase in children coming within
the scholastic age the total will be
about 900000 children within the
age. If the revenues for the avail-
able school fund should increase
possibly $5 per capita could be given
which is doubtful in view of the num-
erous issues of refunding bonds re-
ducing the rates of interest all of
which goes to the credit of the avail-
able school fund. The state recent-
ly ι ut down from i: to per cent $1-
aOO.iitiu of its bonds held by the
school fund. A total of 900000
children ai $■". would mean $1500-
ooo. .in iiii η Msi· of $:.hi;.;i7" while
■ ι' f ■ - ' ai iiit $t.750.o00 would be
required m increase of $556000
