Deputy Sheriff Hotter? and Night
Policeman Worley were called to
Wortham ie Dallas county last night
to the aid of a night watch man who
reported that copper thieves wen-
making way with a great load of
copper. The night-watchman ap-
ptehended the thieve? and hurried
off to a phone to call for help and It
happened that in railing over the
Southern Traction company phone
he got into connection with the El-
lis county authorities. They went at
once to his aid and just as they ar-
rived saw the flash of his gun as
he tlreJ on the thieves. The offi-
cers were our of their juris Union
but helped the night-*at: hman
make a search of the plate but did
not locate the men. The approach of
reinforcements scared the thieves
away.
it is declared that the thieve*
worked for almost an hour getting
the wire and getting it rolled up'
r< adv to take but were scared off
without thcdr booty. The men. five
iu number proved too much for the
watchman and threatened to take
him aud the wire along together
but he managed to hold his ground
and keep them under survellance
until reinforcements came.
