tion of the channel in Galveston harbour that the seawall be extended
eastward so as to obviate the danger of the washing of sand into said
channel; and
Whereas, it appears that should said channel become filled with sand,
commerce in and out of said Port of Galveston would be interrupted;
and,
Whereas, during the year 1912 nearly $300,000,000.00 of freight was
shipped through said channel by producers in Texas, and other States
west of the Mississippi; and,
Whereas, the maintenance and protection of said channel is essential
to the welfare of the entire State of Texas and of many of the States
west of the Mississippi river; Now, Therefore, be it,
Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Texas, that the Congress
of the United States be and is hereby requested and petitioned to take
immediate action toward the appropriation of sufficient moneys and the
directing of the immediate taking of all measures necessary to the protection
of said channel; and,
Resolved, that the Secretary of State be and is hereby directed to forward
a properly authenticated copy of these resolutions to the President
of the United States, to the President of the Senate of the United
States, and. the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the United
States, and to each of the Senators and Representatives of the State of
Texas.
[NoTE.--H. C. R. No. 12 was adopted by the House of Representatives
February 12, 1913, but no vote given; and was adopted by the
Senate February 21, 1913, but no vote given.]

CONFEDERATE VETERANS -DONATING CERTAIN OLD
ARMY RIFLES TO THE VARIOUS CONFEDERATE
CAMPS OF THE STATE.
S. C. R. No. 1.] SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION.
Whereas, the State of Texas has loaned to various Camps of Confederate
Veterans, within this State, certain old army Enfield rifles to the
end that they may keep up the military features of their organizations;
and which rifles are obsolete and of no possible service to the State; and
Whereas, the old Veterans constituting the said Camps are desirous of
retaining same as souvenirs of the Civil War, and,
Whereas, they have in each instance been compelled to give bond to the
State for the safekeeping and return of said rifles,
Therefore, be it Resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives
concurring, of the Thirty-third Legislature of the State of Texas, now
in session. that said rifles be donated by the State of Texas to said Confederate
Camps within this State, and that in each instance the bonds
which were given therefor be and the same are hereby canceled.
[NoTE.-S. C. R. No. 1 was adopted by the Senate February 3, 1913,
but no vote given; and was adopted by the House of Representatives
February 27, 1913, but no vote give.]
