Thos. L. James
Johnny Mitchell - Bashara Lease With reference to yours of the 20th on the above subject, I confirm my conversation with you today. The position we must take with A r. Mitchell is that we are not oil operators; we are not sufficiently well posted to embark in a partici- pation of a drilling enterprise, the ultimate cost of which we are not able to anticipate. I would tell Mr. Mitchell if he is prepared to go into the matter of drilling on the indicated site, we would be very glad to discuss terms with him, but we cannot participate in the venture itself. As to Bashara, I understand that you were informed that he is hauling some pipe and otherwise indicating that he may wish to resume his so- called operations. We shall, of course, do nothing to interfere with his rights in the premises, but also watch carefully our own position with a view of protecting our interest. I. h. Kempner
