here from Camp Hood, Texas for a

several weeks ago to Chicago where
they are spending several months,
looking after their business interests
in the city. They will also spend some
time in New York where they
have business interests.
Mrs. C. W. Boyle and daughter,
Miss Hazel Boyle returned last week
from San Antonio and were accom-
panied by their grandson and neph-
ew, Paul Kay Boyle, who is spending
some time here with them.
Mr. and Mrs. Sal Armstrong of
Big Wells visited here Saturday with
their son, Earl C. Armstrong of Val-
ley Wells who is a patient at the
Crystal Hospital. They visited also
with their other son, George Arm-
strong, and Mrs. Armstrong.

ited several days recently at Carrizo
Springs as guest of her mother-in-
law, Mx-s. Gus Vivian. Mrs. Kil-
patrick's husband is stationed in
Panama and she makes her home

Lewis Moore.
H. W. Wooten of pan Antonio is
the guest this week of F P. Thomp-
son and «ther friends.
Mrs. Clifford Jones and children
of Uvalde are spending several days
here with Mr. and Mrs Dave Vollen-

Miss Dorothy Koehler of Borger,
Tex. is the guest of Mrs. V. W. Hay-
den. Mr. Hayden was called to Per-
ryton, Texas last Sunday due to the
death of his brother, W. P Hayden
who had suffered an extended ill-
ness.
Cpl. James E. Pond arrived Tues-
day from Camp Gruber, Oklahoma,
and will spend several days furlough
here with Mrs. Pond and their small
daughter, Paulette Gail. He will visit
also at Carrizo Springs w>tn his par-
ents, Mr. and Mis. Jim Pond.
Jim Walls has returned from sev-
eral weeks stay in Cincinnati, Ohio
and Galveston, Texas. He has as his
guest Chad Oliver who accompanied
him from Galveston.

Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Wilson have re-
turned here to their home following
several months spent in points in

sever illness while in Oklahoma but
seems to be doing fine now.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Donnell have
returned to their home at Bell-
meade, Texas, following a visit here
with his brother and sister-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Donnell and son,
Mack Donnell.
Mrs. N. M. Roberts, accompanied
by Mrs. Milton Donnell, manager of
the Keith and Roberts Variety Store
at Carrizo Springs, spent the' first
few days of this week in San Antonio
on business.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Donnell are vis-
iting this week in Smithville vdth
her sister, Mrs. H. W. Reod, and an-
other sister, Mrs. Abbie Ratidale, and
her brother, George Priest, in Aus-
tin.

Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Donnell spent
the latter part of last week in camp
at Hunt, near Kerrville where they
joined Mr. Donnell’s sister, Mrs. W.
E. Upshaw, anu his nephew and
wife, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Upshaw,
who were from San Antonio.
Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Chant of Camp
Wood visited here last week with her
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Donnell,
and her sister, Mrs. Lewis Barnes
and family. They were accompanied
on their return by her nephews, Mel-
vin and George Barnes, who spent a
week with them and a week at
Barksdale as guests of their uncle
and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Glynn
Mrs. Jack Adams and daughter,
Linda, went to Bryan Monday to
visit her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. R.
Sample, and to visit her brother, Lt.
Ben Sample, who arrived there from
Illinois where he just completed
training at the Army Air Forces
Candidate School and received his
wings. Mrs. Adams was met in San
Antonio by her uncle and aunt, Mr.

Mrs. R. W. Manifold and her
daughter, Martha, returned Saturday
from Katy, Texas where Martha had
spent a month or more with her
uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. E. B.
Woodell, and Mrs. Manifold had
spent a couple of weeks with them.
Mrs. Woodell accompanied them
home and is a guest in the Manifold
home.
Mr. an’d Mrs. H. R. McNiel went to
Uvalde Saturday where they spent
(he night at the home of her parents,
Mr. and Mrs. J. E. Carraway. On
Sunday they went to San Antonio
where Mr. McNiel attended a meet-
ing of the teachers of vocational ag-
riculture which opened Monday
morning in the Gunter Hotel and
lasted through Wednesday.
Mr. and Mrs. James Hidy. Mr. and
Mrs. W. E. Casey and Mrs. Albert
Lanz spent Thursday in San Antonio.
Mrs. Lanz visited her grandson, Sgt
Hugh Hoyt of Kelly Field. They all
returned in the evening.

Palm Beach, Florida She has been
given the rating of Seaman 1-c and
has beta assigned to St. Louis, Mis-

Misses Cora Virginia Manifold and
Robbie Busby returned Wednesday
evening from San Antonio and San
Marcos where they spent several
days. While in San Antonio they vis-
ited Mr. and Mrs. Emory Jones and
family and Miss Buby’s grand-
mother, Mrs. S Lane.
Mrs. Oscar Willmon, Mrs. John
Lenders and Mrs. Sam Carr returned
Sunday from several days spent in
Abilene with their father, J. S. Peek,
end their brother-in-law and sister,
Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Hendricks. Mr.
Peek suffered a heart attack recent-
ly but was able to accompany his
daughters on their return and will
visit here with them for a while.
Pfc. Charles Q. Crawford, Jr., who
spent a ten-days furlough with his
parents, Mr. and. Mrs. C. Q. Craw-
ford at Winter Haven, left Tuesday
for Las Vega's,''Nevada. Pfc. Craw-
ford came to Crystal City from
Washington, D. C. where lie had been
stationed. Mr. arid Mrs. Crawford
and Judge and Mrs. J. E. Peel took
him to Uvalde Tuesday where he left
via train for Nevada.
Cpl. and Mrs. Ed Boyer went to
San Antonio Sunday morning where
he left for his station at Fort Sill, Ok-
lahoma, following two weeks spent
here with Mrs. Boyer and the little
daughter, Beth, and his mother, Mrs.

SUNSHINE SISTER SOCIAL
HELD IN MASONIC HALL
The Sunshine Sister social was
held in the Masonic Hall at La Pryor
Monday nite, July 31, with Mrs
Geneva Gray as hostess Twelve la-
dies were present to enjoy the games
Mrs. Gray had planned and also the
delicious salad supper.
At quite a late hour all defatted
for their homes, feeling that we had
really been entertained.

Mr. and Mrs. Leo Curtis have re-
turned from San Antonio • and
Temple. Mrs. Curtis visited her sis-
ter, Mrs. W. H. Hunter in San An-
tonio while Mr. Curtis visited in
Temple with his aunt. Mrs Mattie
Curtis, and his counsin, Mrs. Mary
Nabonrs.
Mrs. H. C. Jny returned Wednes-
day from spending several days in
Bryan where she was the guest of
Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Jackson, and at
College Station where she visited
her son, George Henry Jay, who is
a student at Texas A. & M. College.
She visited also in San Antonio with
her daughters, Misses Annie Laurie
and Margaret Jay.
MRS. DUNLAP JOINS HUSBAND
IN ATLANTA AFTER VISIT
HERE WITH PARENTS
Mrs. Franklin William Dunlap
who spent the past week here visit-
ing her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hay J.
Walls, left Sunday for Atlanta. Geor-
gia. She will join her husband En-
sign Dunlap in Atlanta wncrc he is
attending Instructor school.
Mrs. Dunlap is the former Miss
Nancy Lee Walls of this city. Her
marriage was an event of <-nrly May
and was solemnized in the "Little
jChapel” of Travis Park Methodist
Church in San Antonio. Miss Rhoda
Mae Fenner of this city acted as
maid of honor at the wedding.
Ensign Dunlap received his Navy
wings in the class which graduated
at Corpus Christi on July fifth. Fol-
lowing the graduation he and Mrs.
Dunlap accompanied his parents. Mr.
and Mrs. F. A. Dunlap, who were
there for the commencement, *o their
home in Philadelphia. While in the
east they al;o visited in Washington,
D. C., the former home of Mrs. Dun-
lap.

Mrs. Edwin Taylor arrived Tues-
day from Houston for a few days
visit with her husband’s parents, Mr.
and Mrs. E. B. Taylor. Mrs. Taylor’s
husband, Pfc Taylor, is in Italy. Just
before coming to Crystal City she
received a very beautiful bracelet
made of pure silver, and a gold lava-
liere sent her by her husband from
Oran, Africa, and Pisa, Italy. The
bracelet is especially unusual and
when Mrs. Taylor wears it she says
it attracts quite a lot of attention.
Mrs. Donald Rutledge and daugh-
ters, Ola Mae and Mary Jane, and
Mr. and Mrs. Wilems returned Sun-

Mr. and Mrs. Taylor plan to make
their annual trip in the next few
days to points in Colorado where Mr
Taylor represents his produce com-
pany during the buying and shipping
of the fruit crop in that State.

having moved here from Houston
when Mr. Wilems volunteered for
service. He came to Crystal City to
move his family back to Houston.
Mrs. Dietz accompanied the party to
Crystal City for a visit with her sis-
ters Mrs. A. F. Rutledge and Mrs. C.
W. Boyle.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Little were in
San Antonio Saturday and attend-
ed ceremonies held at the Cadet Cen-
ter at which Mr. Little's son, Jo-
seph Paul Little, was commissioned
r. second lieutenant, having complet-
ed a four months training course at
the Army Air Forces Officers Can-
didate School. Lt. Little's training
included military law and he was
sent to Indianapolis from San An-
tonio. Mr. and Mrs. Little returned
Sunday evening and were accom-
panied by her daughter, Mrs. George
Deen and children, Sue and Patgy,
of Nornuin, Oklahoma. Mr. Been has
Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Long and son,
Jerry, left Tuesday at noon to re-
turn to their home in Goose Creek,
Texas after a visit here since Satur-
day with Mrs. Long's brother-in-law
and sister, Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Miller
and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed
Andrus. They came to Crystal City
from Kerrville where they had
spent a week’s vacation. Other guests
of the Millers and Andrus’ Monday
and Tuesday were: Mr. and Mrs. C.
W. Martin and three children of
Lumcsa, Texas. Mr. Martin is Mrs.
Andrus’ nephew. Mrs. Miller and the
Martin family spent Tuesday sight-

Mr. and Mrs. John W. L:.ird of
Crystal City have announced the en-
gagement of their daughter, Mary
Connally, to Ens Robert Charles An-
derson, U.S N.R., son of Mr. and Mrs.
R S. Anderson of Greeley. Colo. Miss
Laird is* leaving Aug 15 for Cali-
fornia where th’ wedding will take
place the latter part of August.
The bride-to-be is well known
here, having graduated frrm Alamo
Heights High School whe'p she was
a member of the National Honor So-
ciety and of Sigma Tau Lamba Sor-
ority. Later she spent two years at
the Washington University in St.
Louis, Mo., and received her degree
of Bachelor of Music from the Uni-
versity of Colorado. Since that time
she has been teaching in a high
school in Sacramento, Cal'*.
Ens. Andersor. received his degree
in mechanical engineering from the
University of Colorado and is now
stationed at Inyoker, Calif.
Miss Laird will spend Monday in
this city and will be honored with a
miscellaneous shower to be £iven at
7:30 p. in. by Mrs. Winston G. Smith,
the former Miss Judy Stubbs, in the
home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs.
Henry F. Stubbs, 202 Montclair.
Since returning from Sacremento,
Miss Laird has spent some time with
her parents at their home northwest
of Crystal City.
One of the greatest forest areas
in the world is the Siberian Taiga,
about 4,000 miles in length and from
1,000 to 2,000 miles in width
gone into the service and Mrs. Dcon seeing in Piedras Negras. They left
and children plan to remain here for in the evening on their return to
